Page 129 of Losing My Siren Luna
I set the necklace on the table beside the bed, then slipped on a loose-fitting shirt I found in one of the chests. It’s a man’s shirt. A very large man. The dark shade reminds me of something Lachlan might wear, which makes my heart pang. I still choose it over the lighter colored shirts for some reason. I guess my heart isn’t ready to let go of him just yet.
Laying on the old, dusty bed, I curl into a ball as my tears start to flow from my tightly closed eyes. I loved him. I truly did. I don’t know how I’m going to get over this pain residing in my heart.
Epilogue
UNKNOWN POV
“Captain, do you smell that?” my first mate, Lucky, asks from beside me as we make our way up the dock.
“Aye, Luck. I do.” It’s the scent of a Lycan, and not a rogue one like us. Female, by the sweet smell of her. What would a female Lycan be doing on this island?
There is a tinge to the scent that is like the brininess of the sea. It reminds me of the demon ladies that sit upon the rocky sea stacks in the far North, beckoning weary sailors to their doom. It’s not quite the same, but similar. Maybe it’s closer to the regular siren folk that come to shore and barter their pearl harvests and purified salt for land goods.
Whatever the smell is, it’s enticing, making my beast stir in my mind.
“It’s powerful,”he purrs, wanting to find its source. “I want it.”
I want it too. I have never smelled anything so mouth watering before.
While the men unload our spoils, uncovering our hidden trenches to bury the goods, I trace the smell back to the main cabin at the center of the small island we use as one of our many hideouts.
Opening the cabin door, the scent overwhelms me.
There, upon my bed, is the most beautiful woman I have ever laid eyes on, curled into a ball. Her face looks pained, but still exquisite. She is only wearing one of my shirts, her long, milky legs on full display.
I want her. Is this a gift from the sea gods? I want this beauty before me, more than I’ve wanted anything else in my life.
I brush the hair from her hair, and she doesn’t even stir. Whatever she went through must have exhausted her.
I lift her feather-light body in my arms, grabbing a blanket from the bed to wrap around her as well. Whoever left her or chased her here may be back soon, and I rather us not be here when they return.
“Captain?” Lucky furrows his eyebrows at me as I exited the cabin. All the men stop working to stare.
“Finish what you have all started,” I ordered, “Quickly. We are leaving at once.”
