“I’m just glad I can help. I better get to it.” He turned to Sara. “It was nice to meet you. I’ll be in touch.”
“You too, Dane. Thank you.”
He left the room, and I sat down on the hospital bed next to Sara, gathering her in my arms.
“You are so fucking brave,” I told her, kissing her temple.
“Not really, I just did what I had to do.”
“Exactly. And you saved Raven. And you called for help. And you got yourself out. Thank you.”
“For what?”
“If something had happened to you, I’d be lost.” I shook my head, unable to articulate my feelings. But needing to try. “Sara, you’ve become everything to me. Please know that. The air I breathe, the life in my veins. Everything.”
“Theo.” She palmed my cheek, rubbing her thumb softly over my lips. “I feel the same way. The last thing I remember is wanting to see your face again. Wanting to tell you I love you.”
I turned my head to kiss her palm.
“Please never stop saying it. I love you.”
“I love you,” she whispered back. “I love you, I love you.”
It was music to my ears. I’d have to leave soon to get to work. Finding the asshole who did this was my number one priority, and until I did, I knew moments like this would be rare.
But for now, I embraced this perfect moment. And the love of this perfect woman.
