Page 99 of Light in Your Eyes
I raise my eyebrows. "And now?"
"I'm a man." He pulls me closer by the waist, and I collide with his chest.
With my hand in his and the other one on his shoulder, we start to dance.
"You've learned that I'm a terrible dancer," Kellan speaks close to my ear, sending shivers down my spine. "I'm not going to warn you."
I laugh again, throwing my head back. "Don't worry. I won't let you fall."
We dance slowly. Just like last time, I guide him through the steps, and Kellan is already better than the last time we did this.
A contented smile curves on my lips. I rest my head on his chest, inhaling his masculine scent that brings me a sense of calmness.
We keep swaying. Just when I close my eyes, wondering if I can stay inside this bubble of happiness forever, I hear him whisper.
"But I already did."
Chapter 37
Layla
"It's supposed to be somewhere around here," Kellan says in an irritated tone.
Today, we're going to spend time in the hammock in the woods. We've been walking for quite a while, but unfortunately, we still can't find it yet.
"As far as I remember, it's not that far," he mutters.
I can only sigh. It's been ages since he went to that hammock—and he hadn't lost his sight the last time he went there—so I totally understand if he can't immediately find his way back there. Yet, as usual, Kellan is being too hard on himself.
"That's okay," I mumble. "I'm actually quite enjoying walking in the woods."
I travel my eyes around the forest, gazing at the beautiful redwoods and rust-colored trunks. The afternoon breeze blows softly, creating the rustling sound of the leaves.
Indeed, spending time with Kellan in the hammock would be a perfect way to spend our time until eveningcomes before we have dinner later at the cabin.
It's when my eyes dart to our surroundings that I suddenly spot it. "Over there," I exclaim as I find the green hammock attached to the trees. "We found it, Kellan. We did it."
Kellan sighs in relief while I instinctively tighten my grip on the straps of my backpack with excitement. I've packed our drinks and other necessities for us to have a relaxing time in the hammock. This does look like a perfect getaway.
When we reach the hammock, I put my backpack down and drop to my knees to check our stuff, but the moment I can't find the books we're going to read together, my heart sinks.
"Oh, God."
"What?" Kellan frowns, sounding alarmed.
"I forgot to bring the new books I bought for us. I think I left it in the cabin." I snap my palm onto my forehead, squeezing my eyes shut.
I'm so stupid.
How could I forget? I was such in a hurry.
He sighs. "Wait here." He's about to turn around when I grab his arm.
"No. Where are you going?"
"Getting the books," he says like it's the most obvious thing in the world.
Quickly, I shake my head in disagreement. It's stupid because he can't see me.
