Page 44 of Light in Your Eyes
I snapped his hand off furiously.
“No. It can’t be.” What came out of my mouth was pure agony. My sobs started to break.
I didn’t want to be blind forever.
Fenrir took a deep breath. “Your doctor told me that the accident caused significant damage to your brain that led to your blindness. It was related to your neurology system, and it was impossible to fix.”
“No,” I cried in disbelief.
“I know that this is hard for you,” Fenrir said softly.
But I couldn’t hear anything anymore from him.
I didn’t want to hear anything.
I didn’t want to hear that I was going to be blind forever.
Something wet dropped onto my chest. I hadn’t even realized that I’d been crying so hard.
My tears wouldn’t stop falling from my eyes and rolling down my cheeks.
“It’s not the end, Kellan,” Fenrir said gently.
How could I believe him? How could I believe that this wasn’t the end for me?
I felt like falling apart again for the countless times.
“You still have a future,” Fenrir said. “You still have Jaxon, and me.” He sniffed again, and I knew that he wascrying with me. “We will always be there for you. We will protect you.”
I couldn’t say anything. All I could do was crying. And it was fucking pathetic.
“No.” My voice was trembling as I shook my head in disbelief.“No,”I shouted at the top of my lungs.
“Kellan.” Someone’s voice echoed in my ears. It was a girl’s voice.“Kellan,”she shouted louder.“Wake up.”
Layla
Kellan is having a bad dream. He tosses in his sleep, restless. He looks like he’s in so much pain.
I’m instantly on alert, sitting on my bed. I lean closer to him. I have to wake him up.
“Kellan,” I urge. “Wake up.”
He whirls his head, still tossing in his sleep. Panic starts to build up inside me. I grab his shoulder to wake him up.
Before I know it, he sits up and pushes me back onto the bed.
My eyes widen in horror as he throttles me with his upper arm.
I grab his arm, trying to stop him. But it seems that Kellan is possessed by something.
My heart beats like a drum in my chest. Air is being sucked out of my lungs because I can’t breathe with the way Kellan puts pressure against my throat.
My hands are shaking as I try to push him away. “I can’t breathe,” I whisper painfully, choking on my words.
Kellan’s eyes are on me. They are filled with fear.
Then suddenly, the reality snaps him. Shock skates all over his face before he lets me go.
