Legacy

After meeting up with Venom in the infirmary and getting every detail of his attempt to save Reagan, I head to Ghost’s office, finding Steel and Havoc already there making a plan.

“Tell me you have good news.” I stop in the doorway, trying to find the hope in the situation when I’m so close to running out.

It’s what Reagan would do. She’d focus on what can be done to fix this instead of letting it paralyze her. For her, I ignore the bleakness of the situation. I refuse to lose her to this.

“I got a hit on Sera’s credit card at a bus station downtown.” Ghost’s eyes stay trained on the screen. “It looks like she’s getting ready to leave Vegas.”

“I should have known better than to trust her bullshit.”

“We all should have,” Steel reminds me, not looking any happier about it than I am. “But she was part of the club once. And when she showed up the way she did, we had no reason to think that had changed.”

I tip my head back. “I bet the whole fucking thing was a game. Remember how she’d pull shit back in the day? The lengths she’d go to if she wanted one of the other girls kicked out? I wouldn’t be surprised if she were involved in her own fucking kidnapping just so she could get back in with us.”

“That’s rugged if it’s true,” Havoc says, and he’s not wrong, considering the permanent damage the barbed wire did. “But you’re right. I wouldn’t put it past her if the Iron Sinners had enough leverage to get her to do what they wanted.”

“Which means she really is our best chance at figuring out where they might have taken Reagan. If she’s involved, then I bet she knows where Reagan is. And if she leaves town, we’re fucked.”

I’ll never get Reagan back.

Steel nods, sending a text. “Chaos is at Sapphire Rise. It’s a mile from the bus station, so he’ll head there now. Havoc, I need you to meet up with them and make sure we get the information we need from her.”

Havoc nods, neither of them elaborating on what he’ll need to do to get her to talk.

And I don’t ask because I don’t want to know.

Not because I feel any loyalty to Sera, but because I have to look her daughter in the eyes every night and tuck her into bed. I can’t do that knowing my club played any part in making her mother suffer .

Chaos and Havoc won’t lay a hand on her. We have firm rules not to hurt women. But it doesn’t mean there aren’t other ways to get information. Blackmail, forced detox, solitary confinement. Sera won’t be physically touched, but we’ll get what we need.

“I’ll let you know the second we have Reagan’s location,” Havoc says, stopping in front of me. “We’ll get her back, brother.”

The promise cements in his words. I have no doubt my brothers will do anything they can, just like I’d do anything for them. As much as I’d like to go with Havoc instead of sitting on my ass, I need to trust my brothers to do their jobs so I can do mine. And I need to be ready to move the second I know where I’m going.

“I want regular updates,” Steel says as Havoc reaches the door.

“You got it, Prez.”

Havoc leaves, and Ghost leans back in his chair, looking at me.

“You’ve got that face,” I say, knowing whatever he has to say is going to make things worse. “Out with it.”

Ghost nods, swallowing hard. “I traced the plates on the back of the van. They’re stolen, so it won’t lead us back to the Iron Sinners directly, but it did lead to something… That same van has been outside Wicked Pole every Sunday for the past month. If I had to guess, that’s the one they’re using to transport women.”

“You’re saying—” I can’t finish the sentence, especially when Ghost nods confirmation .

The Iron Sinners don’t just have the love of my life held hostage; they’re planning to sell her into their trafficking ring.

I’m going to scream or break something. I’m going to light a match to the Strip and watch this city go up in flames.

Except, I’m frozen.

My hands are fists at my sides, and I can’t move. I can’t speak. I can’t think.

I can’t lose her.

Whatever happens, whatever they do, I’ll fix this. I’ll fix us.

A knock comes on the office door, and I turn to see Venom.

“Shouldn’t you be resting?” Steel asks.

He shakes his head. “I’ll worry about that when this is over. Wanted to let Legacy know Bea’s here.”

I swallow hard, nodding my head.

If Bea’s here, it means the entire school day has passed, and I’m no closer to finding Reagan than I was this morning. At least my daughter is home and safe.

“We’ve got this,” Steel says. “Go check on her.”

I nod and make my way to the front of the clubhouse, turning the corner just in time to see Soul walking in with Bea riding on his shoulders. He’s great with kids, even though he likes to deny it.

Soul dips his knees when they reach a beam so Bea doesn’t hit her head, and she giggles without a care in the world.

When she spots me, her eyes brighten, and Soul lowers to set her down. She runs at me the moment her feet touch the ground, throwing her arms around me like she senses how badly I need it. I’ve never hugged her as tight as I do when I lift her up into my arms.

“How was school, Honey Bea?” I swallow the emotion threatening to get out.

“I finished my art project. I drew daisies for Reagan because they’re her favorite. A motorcycle for you. And cowgirl boots because I’m going to be the cowgirl at Uncle Dean’s ranch someday.”

“Does he know that?” I can’t help but chuckle, knowing Chaos would be amused by her decision.

He has no interest in being part of the family ranch himself. He moved to Vegas when he turned eighteen and left that behind to join the Twisted Kings. Still, Bea saw one photo of a horse and decided that’s where she belongs.

“I told him, and he said okay.” She solidifies her stance.

“All right then.” There’s no use arguing when she’s so determined.

“Where’s Reagan?” Bea looks around the room. “I want to show her my picture. I added extra glitter for her part. She said she was going to pick me up.”

“She’s busy, but she’ll be back soon.”

I hate lying to my daughter, but in this situation, it’s for her own good.

“Reagan didn’t leave, did she?” Fear fills Bea’s eyes. “She promised to be mine. ”

“She is ours, Honey Bea. Look at me.” I tip her chin up. “There’s nothing to worry about. I promise. Reagan would never leave, and I’d never let anything happen to her.”

“Like me?”

“Like you.” I tap her nose, seeing Tempe walking into the clubhouse with Austin at her side.

Steel leans in close to whisper an update to Tempe, and I watch as fear and worry flood her eyes. At least she hides it the best she can since she’ll be watching the kids for the night.

“How would you like to spend the afternoon at Austin’s house?” I ask Bea.

“Really? On a school night?”

I nod, and she jumps up and down.

“Thank you, Daddy.”

“Give me a hug. I might be home late tonight.”

She throws herself at me, wrapping me in a giant hug. “Love you!”

When she pulls away, there’s no more fear or worry. She’s bursting with excitement as she runs to Austin and Tempe. There are so many things in her life I’ve had to protect her from, but I’m not prepared to protect her from this.

Which means I need to get my shit together and fix it.

I mouth thank you at Tempe from across the room, and she nods once before guiding the kids out of the clubhouse. Tempe and I aren’t particularly close, but she’s been there for Bea on more occasions than I can count lately, especially with Margaret getting sick. And ever since Reagan showed up, she’s taken her under her wing and made her feel welcome.

I’ve been so wrapped up in myself that I haven’t bothered to appreciate what everyone is constantly doing for me and my daughter. When this is over, I need to change that.

With Tempe and the kids gone, Steel walks back over to me.

“You ready?”

“Yeah.” I pop my knuckles. “Let’s go get some answers.”

While Havoc and Chaos are tracking down Sera, I’ve got time to kill and only one way to do it.

There’s one more person who needs to be dealt with. One more person who had eyes on Reagan today, so they might have information.

Lincoln .

A man I’ve been itching to get my hands on, and now we’ve finally got him.
