“Then I have no interest in being part of a family that doesn't accept me or the person I love,” I state, my voice unwavering as I look my father directly in the eye.
“You have no family to be part of,” Arthur replies, and I catch his face turning red with anger before he turns around to walk out of the room. “Don’t expect a check for your tuition and housing for the last semester. You’re on your own, Reid,” he adds over his shoulder before walking into his office and slamming the door.
Chapter forty-three
Emiliano
December 25th
Me:I’m saving our presents until we can open them together.
Reid:I'm not sure when that’ll be.
December 27th
Me:I’m sorry for leaving you at the gala. I promised to be at your side, and I broke that promise. No matter how I was feeling, I shouldn’t have left your side.
Reid:It’s fine. I don’t blame you. You deserve better.
Me:I won’t have you speaking of yourself that way, Reid.
December 29th
Reid:I miss you.
Me:I miss you too.
Me:Can we see each other soon?
Reid:I can’t right now.
Me:When you’re ready.
December 31st
Me:Happy New Year’s Eve, Muñeco.
January 3rd
Me:I’m sorry for not checking in as often. I don’t want you to feel like I’m pressuring you to speak with me when you might not be ready.
Me:I miss you.
Me:I’m buried in work preparing for an additional course in my workload. After a long day, I wish I could come home to you.
Me:How are you feeling about your last semester?
Reid:Worried. I wish I could come home to you, too.
Me:Why don’t you?
Reid:I can’t right now, Milo.
Me:I know my word might not mean much after Christmas, but I want you to remember I’m here for you, Reid.
Reid:I know.
