A deep rumble filtered through the phone, and fuck me, the sound of his voice was sinful.
“Nah, let me know what you want to eat and I’ll meet you there.”
“Oh wow, and you’re even letting me choose.”
He laughed again. “I told your ass I got manners. Stop trying to box me in as a classless type of nigga, Xi.”
I grinned and rolled my eyes. “I would never do that.”
“Aight then, pick what you want and send me an address. Hurry that shit up too because my stomach has been growling for three hours waiting on you to hit me back.”
I put the phone on speaker, swiped to a search page, and typed in the location. Once I had it, I shared it with him.
“Whatever, I sent you an address. I already know what I want to eat.”
“Aight bet, let me throw some clothes on and I’ll meet you there and you better show up too. Don’t have me wasting gas, Xi.”
“I promise I’ll be there.”
I need this sale…
“Aight.”
I ended the call and dropped back into my chair.
One step closer to closing this deal.Thank fucking goodness.
Chapter 5
Kove
“You haven’t signedthe contract yet.,” Sovoya stated bluntly while the sound of her nails created background noise. Her ass was forever on the grind. I appreciated that because it meant she would be on her shit when it came to my career.
“I’ll get it done today.”
“Why isn’t it already done, Yaakov?”
“That’s a lot of money and I’m not rushing into the decision. I need to look over the contract a few more times.”
I lost the sound of her nails, which meant she paused whatever she was doing. “Do you want to find one at a lower price point?”
“Nah, I’m good on the money. It’s an investment I’ll get a return on one day.”
“Then are you questioning the ability of your team? Because I assure you, myself, Vanessa, and Raaj are all the best at what we do and…”
I smirked. “Nah, it’s not that either. I trust you or I wouldn’t have signed on to be your client. I’m just used to doing things differently. Where I come from, you don’t take someone’s word on shit you gotta co-sign. My name and my money are on theline. Give me a couple hours and I’ll either sign or let you know if I have any questions.”
“Okay, I’ll set a pending appointment for an interior decorator…”
I frowned at the thought. “I’m good on that. I can find a bed, a couple sofas, and…”
“I know that this is a lot all at once and I’m pushing incredibly hard dumping things on you but I promise once we get you settled things won’t feel so overwhelming.”
“It ain’t that. I’m just easy with a lot of shit. I don’t need all the extra. My focus is going to be on the court. I have work to do.”
“You earned your spot, Yaakov. No one is questioning whether or not you belong in that jersey. Take a minute to let that process. Yes, you have work to do, but you’re also allowed to celebrate what you’ve accomplished. Your contract is pretty damn sweet, that’s nothing to take lightly.”
I smirked at the matter of fact way she praised my deal with the Royals because what was insinuated but not spoken was that she’d done the damn thing negotiating thatsweetcontract.
