Page 55 of Kiss Marry Kill
“If he did, I didn’t see him.”
“So you just went straight out to the curb without talking to anybody?”
“That’s right.”
I scribbled some notes on my pad. “Did you pass anybody on your way to the curb?”
“I just said I didn’t.”
“You said you didn’t talk to anyone. You still might have seen someone.”
“Oh, that’s true.” She looked a little sheepish.
“So, did you see anyone?” I nudged.
Frowning, she said, “Well… I saw my mother come outside, but she was the last person I wanted to talk to.”
“So you avoided her?”
“Definitely.”
“Anyone else that you saw but didn’t speak to?”
She let out a shaky breath. “Dad was in the rose garden, smoking. He looked ready to kill. I’m sure if he’d been able to get his hands on Kobe, he’d have taken a swing.”
“Kobe ruffled a lot of people’s feathers, for sure.”
She scowled. “What was Kobethinking? Of all the stupid things to do.” She shook her head. “Did he think I’d run away with him after making that embarrassing scene?”
“I doubt Kobe was thinking at all. He was hurt and drunk, and he just let his emotions spill out.”
Some of her anger dissipated. “He’s so ridiculous sometimes. That’s one of his biggest problems. He doesn’t think before he acts.”
“Do you think Kobe is capable of murder?”
She widened her eyes. “What?”
“You know Kobe really well. I’m asking your opinion of him.”
She shook her head vehemently. “No. I don’t believe he’d be capable of something like murder.”
I narrowed my eyes. “He certainly made no bones about the fact that he didn’t like Archie.”
“Yes. Kobe still has feelings for me.” She dropped her gaze, her sandy lashes resting against her cheeks.
“Is it mutual?”
She looked up, frowning. “I’m still fond of Kobe. But I certainly don’t agree with his opinion of Archie. I don’t believe for five seconds Archie was marrying me for my money.” Her voice was firm, but there was a tiny thread of insecurity there.
“Why do you think Kobe was so adamant about that?”
She groaned. “Because he listens to gossip too much.”
“So you were aware there was gossip about Archie’s motives for marrying you?”
“Of course I’d heard things.”
“But you didn’t worry about that?”
