He glanced at me. “Feeling better today?”
“Yes. Although I have a mild hangover.”
“Of course.”
I sighed. “I’d probably be doing much worse if you hadn’t forced me to eat toast. So, thank you for that.”
“Sure.”
I hovered near him, sipping my coffee. “I suppose you have a busy day?”
“Seeing as there’s still a murderer on the loose, yep.”
“Do you have any idea who the bad guy is yet?” I wasn’t sure he’d answer. He didn’t always want to share things about the cases he worked.
He grimaced. “Not really.”
“Any leads?” Since he seemed open to talking, I figured I’d ask as much as I could. Naturally, I was curious about who’d killed Archie.
“Well, someone tried to use Archie’s ATM card yesterday. We should get the CCTV today. That might push us forward by leaps and bounds.”
I frowned. “That was a risky move on their part. Would the killer be foolish enough to use Archie’s ATM card? They must know the cops would be watching for that.”
“I don’t know who else it could have been. It’s not like Archie lost his wallet. It was on his body. Whoever took his ATM card must’ve been someone close to him.”
“Were they successful in getting anything out of the account?”
“No.”
“Huh. Maybe they weren’t that close then. Otherwise, they’d have known his password, right?”
“True.”
I leaned on the counter. “Of all the suspects you have, if you had to take a wild guess, who would you think the killer is?”
He scrunched his face, and I thought he wouldn’t answer, but then he said, “That’s a good question.”
“Is it easier to tell me who youdon’tthink it is?” I smiled.
“Probably.” He scooped the eggs onto his plate. “I don’t think it’s Janelle. I don’t think it’s Thomas. I think the waitstaff at the Dusty Steer is in the clear.”
“Do you think it could be the Raidens?”
He grunted. “Will you think less of me if I admit I wished it was them?”
“No. I’d love to see them behind bars. They’re not very nice people.”
“Agreed. Unfortunately, I don’t think it was Angela. I examined her dress yesterday, and there was no blood spatter. Also, her alibi checked out with the bartender.”
“What about Mr. Raiden?”
“The jury is still out on him. He definitely had motive. I get the feeling that Archie and Angela might have actually fooled around at one time. I think that’s one reason Michael assumed they had again. I’ve no idea why Archie rejected Angela the day of the wedding, but I believe he did.”
“Perhaps he rejected her simply because it was his wedding?” I scowled in disgust.
“True. Maybe that made a difference to him.”
“Or maybe he’d never given in to Angela. Maybe he’d always remained faithful to Janelle. I highly doubt Angela will tell you the truth, and Archie can’t.”
