Page 82 of Kiss and Tell
But I was worried that if he looked too hard, he would discover exactly what I had been thinking.
What would Connor think if he found out my feelings for him? How would he react?
I averted my eyes but forced a smile.
“I just don’t want to get paint on my shirt,” I lied. “It’s one of my favorites.”
“You’ve got three just like it,” he said.
“Easier to get dressed in the mornings.”
We shared a smile. Connor brushed his thumb across my cheek, wiping off the eggshell-white streaks. He placed a soft kiss on my lips, making me shiver all over again. This time it has nothing to do with arousal. His kiss was so sweet, so full of affection, my heart couldn’t help but sing in my chest.
Maybe I wasn’t the only one.
Maybe Connor was falling in love with me, too.
I looked into his eyes and gave him a bright smile. He returned it.
I swiped my paint-spattered hand across his face.
“Truce is over,” I declared as I danced out of his arms.
Connor growled and the chase began again.
We didn’t finish painting, but that smile didn’t leave my face for the rest of the afternoon.
Twenty-Six
“If I askyou where we’re going, will you tell me?” Connor asked.
“Nope,” I replied cheerfully.
After Connor had invited me home for an ugly-cry movie night, I’d been trying to think of a date night to take him on. As soon as he’d mentioned pretending to be Sherlock Holmes I’d had an idea in mind.
We walked up to the building and Connor read the sign on the front door. I hugged his arm to my side, nearly vibrating with excitement.
“A board game cafe?” he asked.
“Not just a board game cafe,” I said. “They have an escape room.”
Connor looked intrigued.
“I’ve never done one of those before,” he said.
“I think you’ll really love this one.” I suppressed a grin. “It’s got a theme.”
I dragged him inside and gave my name to the hostess. She led us down to the basement and through a hallway to a dark door.
“Here we are,” she said. “You’ve got an hour to find the key. Good luck!”
She left us with a wave. Connor was staring at the door.
“Is this…?” he trailed off, reading the plaque.
I couldn’t contain my excitement any longer. “It’s a Sherlock Holmes themed escape room!”
A wide, surprised look spread across his face. “What! That’sawesome!”He practically skipped into the room.
