‘Did you find anything we can use?’ I asked as I kept watching the seconds on the clock. I needed to get out of here so badly that I felt I could hardly breathe anymore.

‘I can’t tell yet. I’m just copying everything I find and uploading it through a secure connection on my laptop. But from what I can see I didn’t get any picture files.’

It had to be something. Anything!

‘I’m scanning for hidden folders,’Ferris continued as I thought I heard movement outside.

My eyes went straight to the door, but after a few moments of carefully listening, I managed to convince myself that paranoia had kicked in.

‘Bea, is everything ok?’Brax noticed from the camera that I was fussing and turning in the seat.

‘I thought I heard something,’ I whispered, still keeping my eyes on the door.

‘How fucking long, Ferris!?’Brax groaned in the mike, growing more impatient than even I was.

‘I...just...need.. to......Bingo!Got you, motherfucker. Hidden desktop files jpg and avi images. Anyone wants to take a guess what it is?’

We just struck gold.

‘One minute to the full download.’

Oneminuteand I could go to Sebastian. My heart was thumping so loud that I thought it might escape my chest. I watched the countdown drop, counting the seconds falling away until I could see him.

And then it happened. Five seconds on the screen and the office door burst open, letting the governor in along with an army of his men.

It was game over.

‘You bitch!’ He jumped straight to the desk where I was at, grabbing me by the arm and smashing my body on the wooden counter.

‘Bea? Bea are you ok? Beaaa!!!’I could hear Brax roaring on the earphone, but his screams seemed so far away, so unable to reach me.

‘Who hired you?’ The governor’s palm fell to slap my face so strongly that it had sent me straight to the ground. ‘Who are you working for?’ He shouted again as I noticed him picking up a little something from the carpet. My earpiece had fallen out from the impact. ‘Shoot to kill anyone that gets inside and call in to double the guards,’ he roared frantically looking at his men. ‘As for you, bitch...,’ he clenched his hands in my hair, dragging me to the computer to disconnect the phone, ‘You thought I didn’t read straight through your game? You are dead, bitch.’

His words became an echo in my ears as a sharp pain pierced through my head, straight into my brain, breaking all visual contact on spot and sending me into total darkness.

It all ended there. The road I thought I had ahead. The struggle. The plan.

Nothing mattered any longer.

I was just floating above it all, surrounded by voices that seemed to be slowly fading away.

I was dead!
