KALIX

If I could cry, that’s exactly what I’d be doing right now.

Despite the blaring car horns and sitting in the middle of the goddamn street, I’m idling, staring at my phone.

Probably not a good first reaction given my location and the fact that I’ve just been handed a key, but I can’t help the way my body froze.

I’m not sure what happened, but my phone buzzed. A notification telling me that Lainey’s phone was on and was actively being used, and that was everything I needed to see before slamming on my breaks and coming to a halt, dragging my eyes over the screen trying to analyze any detail I could.

Pictures that had my dick wanting to stiffen, random scrolling through apps, but when the map popped up with a little blue dot, I screenshot what I was seeing so damn fast I swear I could hear the pressure on the screen from the force.

It’s her location. An exact pinpoint on a map of where my little rabbit is. No more questions, no more worry.

I hurriedly send the picture to the group chat before mounting my phone again and taking off, weaving through cars.

She’s in the middle of the woods. Thankfully, it looks like there’s a dirt road leading all the way to whatever building she’s in.

Looks like a silver, metal roof, but who really knows.

All I know is that whoever dared to touch her is in for a world of hurt.

She has to be okay. She has to be okay. She has to be okay.

I’m the first to arrive at the small cabin-like building.

The roads leading in are surprisingly well maintained, not that I mind either way.

I swerve where I need to, careful to not send myself catapulting over the handlebars, but also, I need to take this slow.

It doesn’t help that it's also pissing rain, but I really need to get in there.

The possibilities of what could be waiting for me are currently endless, and I don’t want to alert anyone of my presence, so I can’t speed down the road.

I’m coming Lainey.

I ditch my bike along the treeline before continuing up on foot.

It’s dark outside, letting me sneak around in the shadow of night.

I’m the first one here, so I know I’m on my own to save her.

I never thought I’d be the knight in jeans riding up to save the rabbit on his black bike, but here we are.

My helmet is still forgotten somewhere, but thankfully my knife is strapped to my thigh and my pistol is tucked into my waistband.

I pull it out, my pointer finger resting on the trigger for the next mother fucker who decides to meet me face to face before entering.

The front door swings open and I inwardly scoff, who doesn’t lock the front door?

Even my naive little rabbit locks hers, and that’s saying a lot.

Does this person not have any respect for their life?

It’s small inside, and I’m immediately struck with the smell of old. That weird smell that kind of tickles your nostrils when you walk into a place that clearly is normally inhabited and just smells musty.

There’s a kitchen straight through the living room, and a hallway off to the left. There are three closed doors, and one open, which, through the mirror, I can already see is the bathroom.

Opening the first door, I see it’s full of just random shit.

There’s clearly a multitude of boxes underneath some dusty sheets.

Creepy, if you really think about it. Gives major horror house vibes, which I guess is fitting given that I’m currently experiencing my own personal version of one that I never asked for.

The second door opens and it’s a room with a simple bed.

There’s a figure laying motionless except the rise and fall of their chest sprawled across the comforter.

My finger immediately itches to pull, but I try to chill out so I can make the pain last. Wouldn’t want this fucker getting off easy after everything he’s put us through.

Walking across the room, my steps are quiet until I’m able to peer down at his face. Fucking Alex. I knew it.

Before the mother fucker even has a moment to wake up, I raise my hand and slam it into his temple, knocking him out cold. Well, colder since his slumber is now involuntary. This guy should’ve really done some research, because when he wakes up, he won’t enjoy what’s coming his way.

Now that he’s taken care of, I spin on my heel and take off to the next room, letting the door slam open as I push through its boundary.

The figure on this bed jumps, and my soul already knows it’s her.

“Lainey—” I breathe out, flipping on the light beside me, letting the lamp glow next to the bed.

Her eyes squint against the light before focusing back on me.

“Ka-Kalix? Oh my God, Kalix,” her voice chokes with sobs as I close the distance, unsheathing my knife to cut the ropes that bind her.

As soon as her arms are free, she wraps them around me as I hold her close to my chest.

“Shh, shh,” I try to console her sobbing form. My heart races and my throat feels tight with emotion. She’s fucked me up, these emotions I’m feeling I’m not used to, I’ve never felt anything like this before.

“I-I didn’t know if you were coming,” she whimpers as her tears soak through my shirt. I rock us, doing my best to console her before I cut Alex’s chest open and slowly squeeze his heart until the life drains from his eyes so he can experience a fraction of what we are right now.

“Lainey, I’d do anything for you. I’ll come for you in this lifetime and every one after that. Never doubt that, little rabbit.”

I pet her hair as she continues to hiccup. As her crying slows, I pull away to get a look at her, and I see red. Her poor fucking face, beaten and battered.

Her lip is busted, there’s a massive bruise forming under the goose-egg that sits in the middle of her forehead. Her nose is red like it’s received damage, blood dried in spots all around.

“Imma fucking kill him,” I grit. My body shaking with rage as I scan over all of her details.

“Did he?—”

“No. He didn’t do anything except my face.”

Great news for her, but he’s still fucked. He fucking touched her.

“Which hand?” I ask.

“Huh?”

“Which hand did he touch you with?”

“Oh, uh, right. I think. And he head butted me,” she says while touching the spot and hissing at the impact .

“Come on, I need to take care of him.”

“Wait! Please don’t leave me.” She starts to panic.

“Would you like to watch?”

She cringes, “No– Wait, what are you going to do to him?”

I start to tell her when she shakes her head, stopping my words.

“Never mind, don’t answer that. Yeah, no, I don’t think I can stomach it.”

“Okay, then I will have the guys sit with you. They’ll get you cleaned up, but Lainey, I have to take care of Alex. I should’ve never let him walk away after the first time, and now you’re in this position because of me. I swear it will never happen again. Please. I need to do this.”

She nods as I pick her up and bring her into the living room. Everyone is standing there, the black visors down on their helmets but their attention is on us.

“Get her cleaned up, I need to take care of him.”
