“Shh.” She pressed her finger to my lips, her own pouty and begging for my kiss. “Don’t ruin it.”
I swallowed, the cab filling with tension ready to explode. She reached down and palmed me through my slacks, and I squeezed my eyes shut.Fuck. Yes. More.
I glanced around, but we were alone. My belt was released, my zipper drawn, and my cock freed. God, it felt amazing to have her hands on me again. The past week had been torture, plain and simple.
“Sumner—” I reached out with every intention of stopping her. Of telling her we should go back to my place, a hotel, anywhere but the office parking garage.Christ.But my willpower crumbled the moment she wrapped her lips around my cock, swallowing me down.
Her head bobbed in my lap as she worked me into a frenzy. “Fuck, baby. Fuck,” I hissed, gripping the door with one hand for support while I threaded the other through her hair. The curtain of black silk fell over my fingers, and I knew I was done for.
I pushed my feet against the floorboard, muscles tensing. Her mouth was warm and wet…and then she hummed, and I couldn’t take it anymore. I needed to be inside her.
“Back seat. Now,” I growled.
I proceeded to take her in the back of my truck like a horny teenager unable to control himself. And despite my age and supposed wisdom, I knew it wouldn’t be the last time I took her that way. She made me feel young, powerful, wanted in a way no other woman in the past had. It was why I couldn’t stay away. Hard as I’d tried, I couldn’t fight this anymore.
Just for the summer, I told myself.
Chapter Nineteen
“Come home with me,” Jonathan whispered in my ear, kissing just below it.
I shivered from his touch, the aftershocks of my orgasm making me delirious. Had he really just asked me to come home with him? God, how I’d longed to hear those words. It might not seem like a big deal, but it was to me. He was inviting me in, asking me to stay.
But was he? A little voice in the back of my head asked.
Nothing had changed. We were still sneaking around.
A light flickered in the distance, and I was grateful for the dark tint on the windows of his truck. Despite the harsh fluorescents illuminating the parking garage, we were hidden. Well, as hidden as we could be, considering what we’d just done. Talk about bad for optics.
God, I hated that word and all it implied.
“Are you sure that’s a good idea?” I searched for my panties in the back of his truck while he disposed of the condom.
“You mean because of Ian?” His lips were flat, his posture rigid.
I’d realized that Jonathan didn’t like talking about my dad, at least not with me. And definitely not when I called him “Dad.” He seemed to do better when I referred to my dad as Ian. And I’d found it best to simply avoid the topic altogether.
“Yeah.”
He pulled me to him, my back to his front. He inhaled deeply as he gave me a soft squeeze. “God, I missed you. Missed this.”
I closed my eyes, a sense of calm washing over me just from his words and his proximity. I’d missed him too, and not just the sex. I’d missed our friendship and easy banter. We’d only recently started talking again, which was part of my hesitation for diving back into bed with him. Despite what we’d just done.
“What?” he asked.
“This past week has been a roller coaster. And now that we’re in a good place again, I don’t want to jeopardize that.”
“Neither do I.” He brushed my hair aside, adorning my neck with kisses.
“Besides, I’m not sure I should be sleeping with my client,” I teased, needing to make light of the moment.
“And I’m not sure I should be sleeping with my intern. You might sue me for sexual harassment.”
We both had a lot to lose. Not to mention, the biggest risk of all—my heart.
“Except it would have to be unwanted. And it’s not.”
“But you’re still not sure this is a good idea.” He wrapped a strand of my hair around his finger.
