While I didn’t like Joni and, in the end, Scott had lost any of my feelings for friendship, I never wanted either of them dead. It had been four days since the tragic and scary events of the fight at the apartment. When I’d try to sleep at night, I’d see the scenes repeatedly, and the final one of them dead in the grass not far from our door. Despite someone trying to wash the blood away, dark stains in the dirt still showed what happened.
That night had been a terrible and long one for all of us. There had to be statements made, gun permits checked, and a load of other stuff. Even though the police saw the only one to shoot was Joni, they put Iceman, Loki, Renegade, Demon, Stalker, and Predator through being questioned, along with my sisters and me. Thank God for nosy neighbors. Several had witnessed the whole thing and came to our defense.
After we were done with the police, I called Director Higgins to tell him what happened so he wouldn’t be blindsided by it. He’d been speechless and insisted that I stay home the next day. He wanted me to rest from the ordeal, and he’d tell the rest of the staff. I was exhausted, so I took him up on his offer. Thankfully, I’d kept my sisters away from the windows. They heard the confrontation, but they didn’t witness it or the bodies afterward. Hearing it was traumatic enough.
I returned to work on Thursday. Everyone was subdued, and very few people asked questions. I didn’t know if the director warned them not to or if they were just in shock. It wasn’t until Friday that he asked if I’d had a chance to consider his offer. As bad as a double homicide was, it hadn’t changed my mind. I had him tell me about what the job entailed and what kind of pay and benefits there were. I was pleasantly surprised to find the pay was more than a decent raise, and when you became a supervisor, the company covered more of your medical insurance. It took a big chunk of my pay every two weeks to cover all three of us, but not anymore. I told him I’d take the position.
No one was able to attend a funeral service for Scott or Joni. His family took him back to Idaho to bury him. That was where he was originally from. As for Joni, she had a brother. They hadn’t been close, but he did step up and take charge. He had her cremated after no viewing. It was sad to think of two healthy young adults ending up like that.
I felt guilty that we planned to go to the compound to hang out with his club and have fun mere days after their deaths, but Iceman assured me we needed it. He pointed to my sisters, who weren’t their usual bubbly selves, and I knew he was right, so I agreed.
To get into the mood, we went all out, even wearing makeup, curling our hair, and wearing our best jeans and cute tops. We made it a mini girls’ day as we got ready. Iceman whistled when he saw us and grumbled about how he’d have to watch three of us and get to have no fun. He sure knew how to make us smile and feel good. It was a complete family affair, too, with Icicle and Blizzard coming with us.
The Hunters Creek club had heard from Talia and Razor in Dublin Falls how adorable my dogs were. When Iceman admitted that we had pugs and their names, that sealed the deal. Bull insisted they be brought with us. He said the kids and women would love them to pieces. They were even dressed for the occasion in their best halters, but that wasn’t all. Iceman surprised us with gifts for them. Each had on a mini leather cut with their names on them. They were so precious I had to take a ton of pictures.
When it was time to go, we all went in his truck, although I warned him it would be covered in hair. He laughed and said he already found it on all his clothes and tracked it into the truck, so it didn’t matter. It would give the prospects something to do when he made them clean it. I wanted to ask if I could pay them to do mine. I loved my boys, but they shed something fierce.
Walking into the clubhouse was like entering a huge party. The whole club seemed to be in the main room, the one they called the common room. That meant even the women and kids were there. Greetings were shouted, and we were absorbed into the middle of it. There were a few I hadn’t met and several more my sisters didn’t know. Everyone was introduced. Icicle and Blizzard were kidnapped and whisked away. I knew they would be fine and in heaven, so we let them go. Their curled tails had been wagging a hundred miles an hour, it seemed, from the love they were receiving.
Time seemed to fly by, and before I knew it, we were eating dinner. It seemed they’d done a combination of the ladies cooking and ordering from a place in town. I was upset that Iceman hadn’t told me so we could’ve helped out. I was chiding him when Jocelyn assured me he offered, but they said no. This was to celebrate his new family, which meant none of us should cook. I thanked them but told them to tell us about future ones because we would definitely contribute. The women laughed and told us this was our only free pass.
The food was delicious, and there was so much that it was hard not to overeat. While the men talked about this and that, the women exchanged some recipes and talked about work and their families. I loved learning about what they all did and how they balanced it with having a family.
At one point, they asked me how we were doing after the tragedy and offered to help however they could. It made me teary, not because of sadness, but because, for the first time, someone other than Iceman meant it. I assured them I’d let them know.
Iceman made me share the news of my promotion, which they cheered about, and I had to have a drink with them to toast it. I was excited to start the position next week. I kept a close eye on my sisters. They weren’t so much attracting attention from the single members or nothing more than admiring glances, but the prospects were infatuated with them. I’d have Iceman talk with them. My sisters weren’t women they could play with. Plus, they still had over a year of schooling to complete.
It was around eight o’clock that evening, and the fun was still going strong. The kids were in their playroom in the clubhouse, except for some of the babies, who were being held. Blizzard and Icicle were with them, and they were passed out on a rug the last I saw. They’d been admired into a coma. Iceman had come to get me and show me after he snapped pictures of them.
I was chuckling at a story Rylan told about her kids when Bull shouted for everyone’s attention. I strained my neck to see what he was doing and to find Iceman. Bull was up near the bar. He was smiling. I was slightly surprised to see Iceman with him. I wondered what this was about, then dismissed it as club business.
“If you’ll all quiet yourselves down, I have some words to say, and then I’ll turn this over to my brother. We’re gathered to celebrate that Iceman has found his ride until he dies woman, Meadow. In addition to bringing her to our family, which was more than wonderful, he had to be an overachiever and bring us the beautiful and sweet Sage and Aspen. We love having more females to be overprotective of.” He winked at my sisters, who groaned.
“Let’s not forget our two lovable furballs, Icicle and Blizzard. If there was ever any doubt this family was meant for Iceman, just think of their names,” Bull added, earning lots of laughter.
“We are thrilled to have you all. Welcome to the Archangel’s Warriors family. Now, here’s Iceman to finish off. Don’t blow it. I gave you a great lead-in,” he told Iceman.
There was clapping, laughter, and catcalling, which had to settle before Iceman could talk. When it did, he stared straight at me and never looked away.
“Meadow, everything Bull said is true, but it’s more than that. I told you a while ago that one day I’d ask you to be my old lady. And when that happened, it would be a step toward one day becoming my wife and the mother of my children. I love you more than I can ever express, and I know you love me, too. I want to spend the rest of my life with you, so Meadow, what do you say? Will you be my old lady? My Killing Frost in this icy family we seem to have?”
I stood as he was talking. By the time he was done, I was standing in front of him. I gave him my most suggestive look as I nodded. “Iceman, I’d love to be your Killing Frost until the next ice age. Yes, I’ll be your old lady.”
The roar of voices was loud as he yanked me against his chest and kissed me. He bent me backward over his arm as he did it. By the time he let me up, I was dizzy and sexually frustrated. I wanted to take him home or to his room and ravish him. However, it wasn’t over yet. Loki handed him a leather item. As he spread it open, I saw it was a property cut. My property cut, to be exact. On the back, along with the club’s emblem, were the words Property of Iceman . He twirled it around so I could see the front. The name stitched on the left upper chest made me smile. It read Killing Frost with a small snowflake patch sewn underneath it. I didn’t wait for him to give it to me. I snatched it from him and put it on, much to the delight of the others.
That was the signal for the real partying to begin. Kids were herded to settle for the night, and sitters were there to watch them. The music and celebration began. I had the night of my life as I proudly displayed my cut. We crashed there for the night since none of us were in any shape to drive. I’d let my sisters have some fun even if they were underage. My stance was if I was there and they were able to vote and die for their country, they could drink a little. It was silly that they couldn’t drink alcohol.
Before falling asleep, I got to experience drunk sex with Iceman. Even that was incredible. He insisted I wear nothing but my cut when he finally took me. The gleam he had in his eye when he did told me how much this meant to him. I’d made sure he knew how much his club, and he meant to me.
