EIGHT YEARS LATER
SULLEY
I see Vance and Finn approach our stables on top of SoFi, Vance’s horse.
They’re both in jeans, flannel shirts, cowboy hats, and cowboy boots because Finn wants to be just like his daddy all the time.
Vance’s big arms keep Finn’s little body safe as he’s seated in front of Vance with a huge smile on his adorable face.
Finneas O’Shea McCaffrey was born nearly five years ago. We never discussed what his name would be. We both just knew. Boy or girl, Finneas or Finnley, it was always going to be Finn.
Two years later, our daughter arrived. Hazel O’Shea McCaffrey was named after MeeMaw, who passed just before Hazel was born.
I was fortunate in my ability to get pregnant exactly when we planned it, always between my seasons. I never had to miss a single game. Because I have the best husband on the planet, I still don’t have to miss a single game .
After a then-toddler Finn saw his father win his second Super Bowl, Vance decided it was time to retire.
He helps coach at a local high school when he can, manages a real estate portfolio, and runs the Finn O’Shea Foundation, which helps families who have lost a loved one in the line of duty with both their emotional and financial needs.
I’m holding an anxious Hazel as our boys approach. She’s reaching for Vance, ready for her turn on SoFi.
Vance’s eyes meet mine, and my heart does a somersault, just like it always has when I see him. He tips his hat as his eyes move up and down my body. “Howdy, ma’am. You’re looking rather edible today.”
“What are you gonna do about it, QB1?”
He licks his luscious lips. “We’ve got a long plane ride in the morning. I’m sure I’ll think of something.”
I can feel my body flush with thoughts of what I know will happen on that plane tomorrow.
We’re leaving in the morning for Montana.
Since Vance retired, we spend most of November and all of December at the cabin, which we’ve added to.
Apparently, Finn left plans for an addition, and we’ve seen them through.
The kids spend a few days with each of our parents, giving us our own time at the cabin, and then we spend time there as a family, completely unplugged from society.
I know we won’t be able to spend as much time there when Finn and Hazel enter real school, but I want to take advantage of it while I can.
Once I retire, we’ll spend our summers there, but I’m not ready to hang up my high-tops quite yet.
No matter what, we’ll always find time to spend up there. It’s too special not to.
Francesca usually spends a week with us too. She’s a teenager now, but she and Vance have maintained a special relationship I know he cherishes.
I trade kids with Vance and instruct Finn to go clean SoFi’s stall in the stables. He happily obliges, loving anything that has to do with the horses. We have two of them. For now. Finn has been begging for his own, and we might get him one this year for his birthday.
Shortly after we got married, we had the stables built on our property along with a fenced-in area for the horses to graze.
We have a worker who tends to it all, but we want the kids to learn some responsibility.
We told Finn he wouldn’t get a horse until he proved he could take care of one.
He’s out there every day working hard, making his case.
Vance and Hazel take off into the woods for her short ride. I smile as I hear her giggling from a hundred feet away.
My FaceTime rings, and I look down at it. I immediately accept my best friend’s call. “Hey, babe.”
Kennedy smiles into the screen. “Hi. Are you flying out today?”
I shake my head. “No. Tomorrow.”
“Ahh. I mixed days. They’re all the same when you’re on a Caribbean island. Every day is pina colada day.”
I smile. “How’s the big, blended family trip?”
“Great. It’s like crazy on steroids. We’re taking up half of this place. The weather has been beautiful, and they have a kids’ camp. We’re free to get our drink and freak on all day.”
I giggle. “Sounds perfect for you.”
She wiggles her eyebrows. “It is. I wanted to catch you before you left.” She makes a look of disgust. “I hate when you go to Montana. It’s like a third-world country without any reception.”
“That’s my favorite part of it.”
I suddenly hear a loud, grinding noise. “What’s that?” I ask.
She leans forward, and the noise turns off. “Sorry. I was making a Beau Fudd boner shake. I’m feeling extra frisky today. I need a good pounding…and I love fucking with him.”
I let out a laugh. “Don’t break anything…or anyone.”
She winks. “We’ll see.” She leans in and whispers, “I left out a super tight bathing suit for him to wear today.” She lets out a laugh. “Just wait until the boner shake I’m secretly slipping into his morning smoothie kicks in. There will be nowhere to hide that thing.”
I smile as I shake my head. “Always causing trouble.”
She nods. “Hell yes. Anyway, have a good time. I’ll see you at our January practices and workouts. Love you.”
“Love you too.”
VANCE
I suck Sulley’s nipple into my mouth while she rides me without any inhibition. This is my favorite way to wake up. I can’t help but stare at my beautiful wife, so thankful for her and the life we have. It’s perfect, just like her.
We’re up at the cabin. The kids have been at their grandparents’ all week, but they’re coming back today, and we’re celebrating Thanksgiving up here.
We renovated the kitchen along with the addition so Sulley and her mom can keep up their holiday cooking traditions. Something my mother has happily joined.
I’m particularly looking forward to this year. We have a special surprise for our families.
“Oh god, so good,” she yells as she pulls on my hair.
I miss my kids, but when they’re gone, Sulley can be her loud self. I love it.
I grab her hips and grind her back and forth over me. “Bounce on this cock, baby. You own it. Come all over it. I want to feel your juices everywhere and then watch you lick them off me.”
Her eyelids flutter as she gives up control to me, trusting that I’ll give her exactly what she needs.
And I do. Within a minute or two, she comes violently and loudly. She’s so sexy.
I slow things down and let her bask in her post-orgasmic bliss. After a few moments, I breathe into her mouth, “I don’t want you to move. Milk me.”
Her lips meet mine as she clenches the way she knows I need over and over, bringing me to orgasm in no time.
“Where are we going?” my father asks for the tenth time as we all hike through the new path in the woods behind our cabin.
I’ve got Hazel on my shoulders, and Finn is bouncing up and down, knowing what’s coming.
He’s so damn cute. I might sound like an egomaniac, but I love having a mini-me.
He looks like me and acts like me, though fortunately, he got Sulley’s brains.
I might have two Super Bowl rings, but being a father is by far my greatest achievement in life.
My friends like to make fun of me and call me a stay-at-home dad, but I love every second of being there for my kids.
It’s the only way Sulley could continue to do what she does on the basketball court.
She has peace of mind knowing I’m with them when she can’t be.
She’s the best mom in the world, and I can’t wait to continue to grow our family.
Frank scoops up Finn into his arms. “Did you know that your namesake loved telling me all his secrets? In fact, I’ve got a chocolate bar back at the cabin that’s all yours if you tell me where we’re going.”
Finn giggles. “Nope. Daddy said you’d offer me candy, Grandpa. He’s letting me do something special if I keep the secret.”
I fist bump him. “Good man.”
He smiles with pride before looking at my father-in-law again and asking, “What does edible mean, Grandpa?”
Frank looks down at him. “Something that’s good to eat, why? ”
Finn twists his face in obvious confusion. “Daddy told Mommy that she’s edible.”
I snort out a laugh while Sulley immediately grabs Finn and covers his mouth. “Shh. Stand, be quiet, and look pretty, just like your Daddy is supposed to.”
Our mothers giggle, and I can’t help but smile at my wife, who is most definitely not smiling right now.
We hit the clearing, and two new cabins come into view. Mom looks at me. “What’s this?”
Sulley nods at Finn. “You can tell them now. Unzip your jacket pocket.”
Finn unzips his pocket and pulls out two keys, handing one to my mom and one to Nancy. “Mommy and Daddy made you cabins so you can be near us when we visit.”
Dad pinches his eyebrows together. “What do you mean they made us cabins?”
I smile. “We had them built for you. One for each family. All Finn O’Shea designs. Finn junior, that is.” I wink at Finn. “Right, buddy?”
Finn nods enthusiastically. “Mommy and Daddy let me help. I drawed the cabins.” He pulls his drawings out of his other pocket and unfolds them.
“I drawed them, and then Mommy and Daddy’s friend built cabins just like my drawings.
Except they couldn’t find purple wood like in my pictures. Besides that, they’re the exact same.”
Maybe not exactly the same, but as close as we could have reasonably done.
Finn has some talent when it comes to drawing and being imaginative, but he’s not even five yet.
He did come to every meeting with the architects and engineers.
He was fascinated by the process. I hope he becomes an architect like his uncle should have been.
Mom looks at us with eyes full of emotion. “You didn’t need to do this.”
I shake my head. “I’d like for you guys to spend more time up here with us when we’re in town, or even when we’re not, but you need your own space, and we plan to grow our family. We won’t have the extra room for long.”
Nancy gasps. “Are you pregnant again?”
Sulley holds up her hands. “Calm down. I’m not pregnant, but we’d like to start trying again next year.”
Mom and Nancy grin like fools at each other. They live for the grandkids. They visit much more often since Finn and Hazel were born.
We walk up toward the cabin, where they all take notice of the giant oak tree sitting between the houses. I had the rest of the trees around the cabins cleared and then recycled to be used to build the cabins, but I left this tree. The inscription reads, Finn’s Fantastic Designs .
