“I haven’t,” I confirm quickly before she can think that was a lie. “And I’m good. That’s not what I’m talking about. But you… Are you on the pill or anything?”

Her eyebrows furrow, like she can’t figure out why I would ask her that. “No, I’m not on anything. But if that’s what you’re worried about, don’t. I won’t get pregnant.”

“Why not?” And why does my heart stop considering why she’d give me that answer?

“You know why, Levi.” She avoids my stare. “I was with Titan for almost a year, remember? Don’t you know what they do there to make sure accidents don’t happen?”

My gaze moves back down her body, to the rugged scar on her lower abdomen. Looking closer, I see now it’s a little too rough for a surgery that would have been done at a hospital.

“What did he do to you?” When I tried to ask her that question in the desert, there was room for her to refuse to answer.

Not now.

And she must sense it when my eyes meet hers.

“They did what they do to all girls they bring there.” She swallows hard. “They sterilized me.”

I’m vibrating with rageas I storm through the clubhouse. Chaos spots me just as I reach the back door, but he’s smart enough not to cut me off. Instead, he meets my stride.

“Why did I get a call from Steel saying not to take my eyes off you until he gets here?” Chaos follows me on the long trek to the Shack.

My vision is dark around the edges. Corners of my sanity swirl with what Aimee said.

Out of the thousands of sick things I considered could have happened to her when she was with the Iron Sinners, I never considered that. Maybe I wanted to believe the rumors about what they do to women were exaggerated when I knew better. Maybe I wanted to stay in denial when there was no hiding the truth in her scar.
