He sent his chameleon-like spy into my territory to see if we would be a good fit. “What would have happened if we weren’t kind?” I ask him, not giving Keegan or Riordana chance to respond to my brother. “What if we had taken your daughter and raped her like she feared?”
Keegan’s eyes narrow, his aggression mounting in a blink. “I would have killed as many Alphas as I could trying to get her back.”
“That’s one hell of a risk,” I tell him, not liking his response in the least. “You would have died trying, and your daughter…” I can’t even finish the statement, too disturbed by the realization to say much else. “You literally gambled with her life.”
And that infuriates me.
“She deserves better,” I growl, no longer keen on this discussion. “She’s a diamond. A fucking treasure. And you waltzed her in here, days before her first fucking heat, and just hoped these so-called rumors were true. You’re a shit excuse for an Alpha.”
Keegan growls low in his throat. “I would die for her.”
“Good,” I fire back at him. “Because you just fucking might.”
I ash out of his quarters, taking Riordan with me since his face is tied to my damn wrist.
But I don’t go to Taliana the way my dragon desires. Instead, I teleport to the caves I grew up in, needing a moment to calm the fuck down before I do something I’ll regret.
Like kill Taliana’s father.
CHAPTER NINETEEN
TALIANA
I sitin the middle of Oros’s bed.
Naked.
And evaluate the blankets around me.
We’ve slept in these sheets the last few nights, making them smell like us. But I need more than just these blankets and sheets.
Hmm.
I crawl out of the pillowy haven to go in search of new linens. It takes a few tries—his closet ishuge—but I finally locate them in a cabinet near the corner.
Grabbing everything I can find, I carry them through the closet and out into the main suite to set the items on a bench at the foot of the four-poster bed.
My wolf paces eagerly inside me, pleased with this development. We’ve denned before, but we’ve never truly nested.
Rubbing my hands together, I suppress a squeal.
Then I get to work.
Strip the bed.
Re-dress the mattress with fresh sheets.
Blankets.
Now… the edges.
I roll the used sheets until they form perfect lines along every side of the massive bed, creating four soft walls to roll between.
And then I grab the pillows to bolster those walls.
Except I don’t have enough pillows.
Frowning, I pace around the space, searching for more items I can use to strengthen the edges.
