Page 71 of Ghost
Havoc stops beside Ghost, and Venom hands him a beer at the same time as he hands Ghost his whiskey.
“Clean run tonight.” Havoc taps his bottle against Ghost’s glass. “Nice work.”
Ghost nods at him, taking a sip of whiskey and then resting the glass on the bar. I wet my lips, remembering how whiskey tastes on him, but holding myself back from doing anything about it as I look up at him from my barstool.
Ghost looks down at me, rubbing circles on my back, and I wonder if he can read my mind. Or maybe my warm cheeks are giving me away.
“Hi, baby.” Reina slides next to Havoc, clinging to his arm.
He ignores her, but she doesn’t get the hint. Her hand rubs up and down his forearm before she starts tracing a tattoo on the back of his hand with her finger.
I don’t know Havoc’s full history, just that he was in the military before he patched into the club and that as long as I’ve known him, he’s been closed off to love.
None of that stops Reina from trying.
“I’m gonna shower and pass the fuck out.” Havoc steps back, tapping Ghost’s glass with his beer bottle one more time before disappearing down the hall.
“You two have fun.” Reina winks at me, chasing after Havoc.
She needs to stop tying herself to emotionally unavailable men. If Steel was any indication, she’s setting herself up for another heartbreak. I look up at Ghost and wonder if I’m one to talk since he shut me out for so long. But this is different—I think. How he’s acting doesn’t feel like he’s holding me on a string.
I run my fingers down his cut and trace the letters of his name on the patch, hoping he’s not going to break my heart.
“You want another drink?” he asks.
I glance at my gin and tonic, noticing Venom still hasn’t refilled it and deciding that’s for the best. “No, I’m good.”
“Let’s go sit.” He laces his fingers through mine and tugs my hand, pulling me from the barstool to follow him.
Eyes are on us as we weave through the room. Patch bunnies whisper, and club members grin at Ghost.
He leads me to the couch I was sitting on before I moved to the bar, and when I try to sit on the cushionnext to him, he pulls me onto his lap instead so I’m straddling him.
My thin pajama shorts ride up, but my T-shirt is long enough to hide my ass.
“Get good.” Ghost reads my T-shirt, smirking.
I shrug. “It’s an important message. More people should do it.”
“Couldn’t agree more, beautiful.” He pulls me in for a kiss.
It’s overwhelming in the best way. His teeth tease my lip, and it sends shivers through my body. I’m breathless when he pulls back, and there’s no use trying to hide the blush creeping up my neck and cheeks.
Someone yells from the bar, and I look over my shoulder to see Soul taking a body shot off one of the new girls.
“At least there’s never a shortage of entertainment in the clubhouse.” I shake my head, turning back to Ghost.
His gaze moves to the pool table. “I noticed.”
My eyes widen. “You saw that? You weren’t even here.”
“I see everything that happens at the clubhouse, Luna.” He tucks my hair behind my ear, glancing up at one of the cameras in the corner.
“And here I thought I was special.”
“You are special. Why do you think I spent the entire ride back with my eyes on you? It sure as fuck wasn’t to watch Mayhem get his dick sucked.”
He smirks, and I drag my teeth over my lower lip.
