Chapter 13
Cade had never heard of anyone actually dying from a case of blue balls. Was it even possible? He was afraid he was about to find out.
And if he died, it would only serve him right.
He felt like a pig. A horny, underhanded, opportunistic Mr. Pig.
He should have left right after helping her out of that ridiculous robe. How disgusting of him to stay and touch what wasn’t his to touch, and what in all likelihood would’ve been off-limits were Coco fully aware of her surroundings.
But the need to touch had overwhelmed him. Just on her head, he had rationalized, on her glorious hair, just to help her go to sleep.
He helped her, alright.
The light switched to green, and Cade shot forward leaving skid marks on the road.
Damn Ross and his witch’s brew. And damn his own overprotective instincts toward Coco. He should have kicked Dan’s ass into arranging for a ride and seeing her home. It was Dan’s right to screw her into oblivion on top of that yellow comforter.
Only she didn’t want Dan. It was Cade she was desperate to fuck. It was his name she chanted clutching at him, trying to rub her sweet wet cunt where he most wanted it. He had come within the hair’s breadth to unzipping his pants and driving it home. To think of it, he should be proud of his self-control.
The party had broken up when he entered Dan’s house, with only a few guests still lingering around, saying goodbyes.
Inside, the caterers were doing a good job of keeping the rooms clean, but the potent mix of mingled perfume, alcohol, weed smoke, and stale food could bring down a horse.
In the living room, Dan’s important guest Fred lay sleeping, neatly folded in the loveseat. The idiot would have one hell of a neck kink come morning.
Cade found Ross at the kitchen table, drinking coffee and clicking away at his laptop.
Ross slurped from his mug without raising his eyes from the screen. “Is she feeling better?”
“No thanks to you.”
“Poor lamb, totally wonked out.”
Cade wanted to smash the laptop closed on Ross’s fingers. “Why?”
“Why what?” All innocence, Ross folded his hands behind his head, taking his fingers away from harm’s way.
“Ain’t we obtuse tonight. What did you try to accomplish by slipping her a roofie?”
“I don’t know.”
He didn’t know. The asshole’s propensity for playing games was wearing on his nerves. “Why do it if you don’t have a reason?”
“See, there’s always a reason. Sometimes you act to see what you can learn from the result.”
The bastard didn’t even deny doctoring her drink. Cade wanted to kill him. “And what did you learn?”
“Nothing. Or it may be too early to tell. But here is a food for thought: why doyouhave your panties in a wad over the poor inebriated Coco?”
Their gazes locked and held.
Alex’s loud hiccup broke the charged moment. “There you are, back already.” He emerged from the darkened hallway, phone in hand, and propped himself on the doorframe.
Cade bristled. “What did you think, that I’d spend the night?”
“She wouldn’t have told if you did. She wouldn’t have remembered.”
“You’re both sick fucks.” He pointed fingers at them. “From now on, I’m staying at a hotel.” Without another word, he walked up to Alex who was blocking the doorway. “Move.”
