Page 42 of Falling Too Soon (Seasons of Love #1)
ONE YEAR LATER
Daphne
D riving up to the cabin felt surreal. It felt like ages ago that I first met Nathan here.
Nathan reached over and squeezed my thigh as if he could read my thoughts.
And as I looked up into his eyes and smiled, I knew that our chance encounter over a year ago had been fate. Our paths were supposed to cross.
The last year we had spent together seemed like a dream, one I’d be so fucking pissed to wake up from.
We officially started dating just before Halloween and had been pretty much inseparable since then.
Things were going so well that I abandoned my apartment search and ended up moving in with him after only knowing him for a couple of months.
But hey, when you know, you know, right?
At least that’s what his dad had said when we were introduced shortly after Nathan and I made things official .
I adored Nathan’s family. We spent many Sunday nights at his dad’s for dinner and enjoying time with his brothers.
They welcomed me with open arms, and it was as if I had been a part of their family from the start.
I only wish I had been around when Nathan’s mother was still alive.
From the stories they told of her, she was an amazing and beautiful person and, according to them, she would have loved me too.
When I took Nathan to meet my parents, they were a little more skeptical of our relationship, but I knew that came from a place of love and fear of me getting hurt, rather than their dislike of Nathan.
They worried that things had moved too fast, and who could blame them?
Things had moved fast. Of course, Nathan eventually won them over because they could see how good he was for me and to me every day.
I had never been happier or more in love.
Nathan gave my leg another squeeze, bringing me back to the present as he made the turn into the cabin driveway.
It was better than I remembered. The leaves on the trees surrounding the cabin had already changed colors, and the sight of them reflecting off the lake was a sight I would never tire of.
I loved fall, and this was the perfect place to enjoy it.
“How’s it feel to be back here?” Nathan asked as we were getting our things out of the car.
“So weird, but in a good way. I mean, it’s weird to be walking in with you instead of walking in on you,” I laughed .
“Yeah, let’s not drop any wine this time, okay?” he chuckled as he held the front door open for me.
Memories came rushing back of our first encounter, the electricity between us, the rush I felt during our first kiss.
Things were never dull or mundane with Nathan, but those first few days had been chaotic and exciting, and being here now was bringing all of those feelings to the surface again.
The air inside the cabin was charged with anticipation.
I turned quickly and pushed Nathan against the wall, catching him off guard.
“Do you feel it? There’s just something about this place,” I breathed.
My hands roamed up his chest and onto his shoulders.
His response told me he felt it too. He dropped the bag he was carrying and pulled me in closer, his hand on the back of my neck.
Thankfully, said bag did not contain a bottle of wine this time.
That was part of our first meeting I didn’t feel like reenacting at the moment.
“It’s not the place, Baby, it’s all us.” He grazed his lips over my ear and then lifted me and turned so my back was against the wall.
And then his lips were on mine, and, like the first time, electricity sparked between us.
Nathan was right. It wasn’t this place that did that.
Every time we kissed, I felt it. I felt it every time he held my hand or sent me a text while I was at work.
It didn’t matter where we were or what we were doing—I felt this charge between us.
It was all us. Our connection was pure electricity.
He kissed me as if I were the air he needed to breathe, our tongues exploring each other’s mouths.
Suddenly, my back was on the kitchen island.
When did he walk over there? I couldn’t care less.
Time and space were no longer important as he stripped my leggings down my legs.
With my shoes still on and my leggings bunched up at my ankles, he threw my legs over his head and onto his shoulders, then licked my already-soaked core from crack to clit.
My hips jutted up off the counter in response as a deep moan escaped my lips.
He continued feasting on me until I was writhing and squirming and panting, so close to my release.
When I was on the brink, he thrust two thick fingers inside of me and curled them to hit that spot that made me see stars, and I came with a cry as my release soaked Nathan and probably the floor in front of him.
I was completely spent and lay there reeling from my orgasm as he lazily licked me clean.
“Holy shit.” I looked up at him as he stood to his full height and started pulling my leggings back into place. “Wait, what are you doing?” I asked, expecting that we would take things further.
“There’s plenty of time for that later, Kitten. We have plans.” With that, he set me down on the ground and turned to take our bags to our room. What the fuck?
Our having plans entailed scary movies and takeout by the fire, my favorite pastime during spooky season. I wasn’t mad about it at all, but I was still so wound up. The earth-shattering orgasm on the island was enough to keep me satiated through dinner, but I was getting impatient for more.
After dinner and about halfway through one of my favorite movies, Nathan excused himself to go to the bathroom.
He’d been gone for a while, and I was wondering if I should check on him.
I looked to the hallway where our room was, and standing just inside the darkened hallway was a tall figure dressed in black.
I let out a small, surprised screech. Fucking scary movies.
My eyes trailed up the muscular physique and came to rest on the Scream mask covering the figure’s face. This mother fucker.
He tilted his head to the side. “Run,” he growled. And I did. Of course, I didn’t make it too far, and he finished what he had started earlier on the island.
Hours and many orgasms later, we lay in bed together, laughing about how this night was just missing my sexy clown costume, when Nathan’s expression turned serious.
“What?” I laughed, “Why so serious all of a sudden?”
“Do you like it here?” His question caught me off guard. Of course, I liked it here. It was where we had met, and the cabin was so cute and cozy. We had talked about it often over the past year, and the decision to come here for Halloween had been an easy one.
“Of course I do. Why do you ask?”
“I sort of bought it. Surprise!” He made a “ta-da” motion with his hands.
“Oh my God, Nathan! Seriously? When?” I couldn’t believe he had bought the cabin.
“Last month. You were so excited to come here again, so I reached out to the owner. They weren’t planning on selling, but after I told her our story—well, the PG version of it anyway—she said she’d be open to at least hearing my offer.”
“Holy shit! It’s yours? That’s amazing!” The thought of being able to visit here throughout the year had me so excited. Visions of us paddle boarding on the lake in the summer, celebrating holidays, and having cookouts surrounded by our families flashed through my mind.
“Ours,” Nathan interrupted my runaway thoughts. “It’s ours, Daphne. I plan on spending my life with you, and that means what’s mine is yours.”
A single tear slipped down my cheek while a wide smile stretched across my face. “Best. Halloween. Ever.”
