Page 76 of Demon Heart: The Complete Series
XAVIER
I held him through the hours, enjoying the sounds of his soft breaths.
Roman Gold belonged in my arms.
He belonged in my life.
I kept my eyes on the TV as dawn officially broke, no new updates on the current situation. Lots of debates, cameras stationed at various key locations awaiting a scoop. The riots continued in central London but did show some signs of slowing down.
The new day would bring new details.
I smoothed my lover’s hair, tracing lines across the artful stubble of his jawline.
“You are so beautiful.”
As beautiful as Ismael. Different from him.
Roman was my present, my future. My last chance at peace. My chance to find happiness again.
Even if a part of me would always long for Ismael, the fires of that love were dim now. I’d lost him the day his father died. From that moment, his hand slipped from mine. I couldn’t see it at the time, yet returning to the past forced me to confront the reality.
I will always love you.
But it is done.
Fighting to change his future only hurt others. It would make me no different than Butterfly.
Besides…
“Wherever you are, I want to be there,” I told the witch.
He stirred, settling back down quickly.
I knew for sure I was in the right place at the right time. And now was the time for wooing this man.
My smiles of late shocked me because they were real. Once again, they meant something.
“Thanks to you, Roman.”
I kissed the top of his head.
Thanks to you.
