Those vivid blue-green eyes widened. “He showed you what now?” she demanded, sitting up and shattering the close intensity between us.
I chuckled, sitting myself up with her.
“Yeah, he showed me your best games. He was very proud. You were quite the superstar.”
The light flush creeping up her cheeks made me want to nip and kiss her skin. Which I planned to do until her palm landed on my chest, stopping my approach.
“Hold up. When you and I chatted in the kitchen graduation morning, you said that you didn’t know I played sports.”
Now I was blushing. I grasped her hand, bringing it from my chest to my lips. I placed a soft kiss on her palm before admitting into her skin, “I lied.”
She gasped in mock disbelief. “Trey Tory Turner!” she exclaimed, and I tackled the tantalizing woman back to the bed, pinning her down with my weight.
The darling, pink robe slipped, revealing more of my favorite expanse of skin. I trailed praising kisses from her collar bones down and around to all the exposed places while I spoke.
“What can I say? I had a big crush on you, May.” I nibbled the bare skin above her navel. “I would’ve done anything to get you to notice me for just a moment. Speak one sentence to me. Spend a second of your time with me.”
A kiss against her inner thigh, gliding up to her knee.
“Then that morning you were talking to me. I was willing to do anything to keep you with me.”
I rose back up, kissing the underside of her jaw. Then I whispered my lips along the shell of her ear.
“Even tell a small lie.”
When our eyes met, noses touching, the grin on my face was tight, full of cramping cheek muscles. Maybelle’s smile was sweet, innocent. It made me want to tease and taunt the sexy woman until her sassy, infuriating side came out to play.
Thankfully, I didn’t have to do much to persuade as her eyes narrowed.
“You really are obsessed with me, aren’t you?”
I kissed her because yes. Yes, I was.
I pulled away, smiling uncontrollably. “That would be the understatement of the century.” I lay down, my head resting on her chest, her arms snaking around, drawing me closer to her.
“Trey,” Maybelle said, her arms pulling tight, allowing no room for escape. It was perfect.
“Mayhem?”
“I need you to take me somewhere.”
“Anywhere, love.”

The sky was a blazing sunset of oranges, pinks, and yellows when I put the car in park. Maybelle was quiet, but it was a good quiet.
We were going to see her family for the first time in almost two years.
Opening her door for her, I took the flowers from her hands. Allowing her to step out of my mom’s car onto the plush grass of the local cemetery.
I took her hand and glanced behind me.
“Come here,” I said as I hugged my mom into my side.
Mom smiled at me then smiled at Maybelle. Maybelle’s eyes were still glossy from their reunion.
“Thanks for being here, Chels,” Maybelle said, and Mom reached around me to squeeze her arm.
