“I would love our baby,” he rumbles, and Sally sighs. “I don’t want to be in the room when you have them, though.”
“What? Why?” she gasps.
“It looks painful as fuck,” he says. “I’d punch the doctor.”
“Luca, you would not,” she denies with a laugh.
“Totally would. You saw her push the baby out, right?” he asks.
“Yes.”
“Brother?”
“I kind of agree. It doesn’t look fun,” I say.
“Women have been doing it since the beginning of time. That’s why we are so tough. That’s also why men don’t have the ability. You would crumble at the first hint of a cramp,” she points out.
“I’m not going to disagree.” I hold up my hands.
“Good. Remember those words for the future,” she teases. We stop talking as the waitress brings our food. Sally’s meal looks tiny compared to the food Luca and I ordered. “They’re big boys,” Sally comments, wiggling her eyebrows. The woman blinks, blushes, and hustles away.
“Fuck, you are amazing,” Luca says, picking up his burger.
“Thank you.” She dips her fry. “Remember that too.”
“Do you think your visions have increased since we met?” I ask, and she pauses, taking a bite.
“Yes. It’s never been so frequent and clear.” She takes a bite. “When I have them, they are usually while I’m sleeping. Sometimes they come while I’m awake, but it’s infrequent.”
“Did you have any about us?” Luca asks.
“I did.” She stares at her plate.
“What were they about?” I ask, but I have a good idea what.
“I never saw your faces.”
“Sex dreams,” Luca says, and takes a drink.
“Luca,” she scolds.
“What? You can call us your boyfriends in front of the server, but I can’t say sex dreams?” He raises his eyebrows.
“You’re right,” she laughs. “Don’t get used to it.”
“I won’t, Tricks.”
“It was beautiful, though,” she sighs.
“You would be stunning holding our child,” Luca says, and continues to eat. I see Sally’s hand shaking. She gathers herself.
“I know,” she says.
“Do you like working for Quinn?” I slide my free hand into the rip in her jeans, cupping the inside of her thigh. I don’t miss the smell of her heat at the contact.
“It’s interesting. Seeing the women he helps is sad yet heartwarming. They come to him at the lowest point in their life. I wish I would have had someone to turn to growing up. I like the work we do. Quinn’s a good guy. We didn’t get along great in the beginning.” She chuckles. “I could say the same thing about many of the family.”
“What do you mean?” Luca asks, putting his arm behind her.
