Cassidy

Rather than going to Brenda’s on Monday morning, David’s grandmother came to his apartment. He ran out to get her first thing, so she could come over and they could explain to her what was going on and what the new safety precautions were going to be.

Cassidy tried not to feel awkward when Brenda sat down at his kitchen table, right where he’d bent Cassidy over it the night before.

He’d figured twenty-four hours was enough of a strike for her clit, though he’d kept things to one orgasm last night instead of sending her into overload.

She was mostly grateful and just a little disappointed.

“He put trackers in your shoes?” Brenda asked in amazement as David bustled around them, getting breakfast ready.

“Yes.” Cassidy couldn’t help but shiver.

That was a step farther than she would have ever expected from Don.

Where had he even gotten the things? Her hand went up the necklace that she was wearing, which was what Black Fox was using to track her.

It made sense that they had such equipment. Don, not so much.

“Not all of them,” David interjected as he plated the eggs and pancakes. The green pancakes. He put spinach in them. Cassidy didn’t protest because she could barely taste the spinach this way, thankfully.

“Just my favorite ones.” Cassidy scowled. He’d ruined her favorite pair of club shoes. She didn’t think she was ever going to be able to look at them the same way again.

It really was amazing what a difference feeling safe made to her mental state.

Back in Maryland, she was pretty sure she could have been freaking out.

She would have been terrified by how obsessed he was with her, to the point of tracking her like that.

Part of her was still freaking out, but her overwhelming emotion was anger.

How dare he?

For the first time, she was more pissed than scared, and in some ways, that felt really good.

“I take it that’s why we’re here right now instead of my house,” Brenda asked, smiling up at David as he slid a plate in front of her. “Thank you.”

Cassidy repeated the sentiment as David put a plate in front of her before going back to get his own. Don would have never.

“You’re welcome. And yes, that’s why you’re here.

Cassidy’s shoes have never been here before, but they have been to your house.

This way, Cassidy can still keep you company and take you to your usual haunts.

We’re hoping Don doesn’t realize Cassidy has moved locations since her shoes haven’t and thinks that she’s under lockdown after the flower delivery. ”

“So, we can still go out?” Brenda asked as David sat down beside her, sounding both relieved and a little trepidatious. “We don’t have to. I want Cassidy safe more than anything else. We can just stay here and watch movies.”

“No, you should be able to go out. We’re changing what car Cassidy will be driving you around in, and she has a couple pairs of shoes that didn’t have trackers in them. Don should think that she’s still at Jensen’s, but keep your eyes peeled just in case.”

“Maybe you should use me as bait,” Cassidy suggested, then immediately shrank back in her seat as two pairs of eyes pinned her in place. “Okay, maybe not.”

“Definitely not.” Brenda gave her a look.

“No, we don’t need you, just your shoes.” David also gave her a look, the kind that said he was going to spank her later for even thinking he’d put her in danger.

Well, that might not be so bad.

If her poor clit had recovered by then.

The good news was he wasn’t going to spank her with his grandmother there.

“Good point. I don’t know why I didn’t think of that,” Cassidy said with very real relief. “I don’t actually want to be bait, I just… I just want it to be over with.”

“Of course, you do, dear,” Brenda said sympathetically, reaching over to pat Cassidy’s hand. “Don’t worry, David will take care of it.”

Rather than protesting that he might not be able to or that it was more complicated than that, David just nodded. Cassidy wished she had his self-assurance. She still wasn’t sure what Black Fox was going to be able to do unless Don did something to get himself arrested.

Unless they were going to put the shoes somewhere, rig them with explosives, then blow Don sky high when he came looking for her.

Though, if he lived through it, he’d probably be angrier than ever, and he could spend the rest of his life with a vendetta, hunting them all down one by one, saving David and Cassidy for last so he could slit David’s throat in front of her.

Oh. My. God. Why is my brain like this?

Apparently, it was back to her normal level of paranoia this morning.

Then again, could it really be called paranoia when someone was actually out to get her?

Mistress Julie said it was her anxiety. The important thing was to remember that it hadn’t happened, it wasn’t necessarily going to happen, and it was actually highly unlikely to happen.

No matter how her nervous system reacted to the thoughts.

She wondered if David’s brain ever did this to him.

Probably not. She knew it wasn’t ‘normal.’ But it was her normal.

Unfortunately.

On the other hand, she’d rather be anxious and paranoid and therefore on guard rather than assuming everything would be fine and ending up with a bad case of the dead.

“So, where are you staying now?” Brenda asked, jerking Cassidy out of her maudlin thoughts.

“Oh, um…” Cassidy looked at David.

David looked back at her.

Brenda smiled gleefully.

David

Did David feel bad about rushing out the door and leaving Cassidy to deal with his grandmother?

Maybe just a little. Not bad enough to stay, though.

Especially once his grandmother started talking about his ‘butt stick’ again.

Cassidy found it hilarious. So, the two of them could talk about his butt stick while he wasn’t there.

And he did have the excuse that there was a lot to do at work, including figuring out what they were going to do about Don.

Cassidy had a panic button, a tracker, and his grandmother. They didn’t need him right now. They could have a fun day all by themselves, and hopefully, he would be able to take care of Don for her.

He hadn’t told Cassidy, but it wasn’t just the shoes that were going to be used as bait.

She hadn’t met everyone from the other side of the office, which was run by Lincoln’s brother Harris.

Harris’ team, which was led by Grant Sexton, aka Sexy, had a woman on it, and she happened to be about Cassidy’s height and have long brown hair just like Cassidy’s.

Darcie Maverick had already agreed to be their bait.

The only reason he hadn’t told Cassidy was because he didn’t want her to feel like she was putting someone else in danger. She wasn’t. He was.

But he knew Darcie could handle it.

Walking into the office, he was surprised to see Mason hanging out by the front desk, leaning on it with his elbows and talking to Jennifer.

Mason was dressed in his usual suit, today paired with a grey patterned tie.

Jennifer had opted for a colorful spring dress with pink, orange, and red flowers on it, and she’d pulled her hair half-back with some kind of matching clip.

They both looked up as he entered.

“Morning,” he said to both Jennifer and Mason.

“Good morning.” Jennifer smiled up at him, but there was worry in her eyes. “I heard about the flowers. Is Cassidy okay? I wasn’t sure if I should text and bother her or not.”

“Text,” David said immediately. “She’s fine, but she’ll appreciate you checking in.”

“We’re not sure the flowers have anything to do with her at this point,” Mason reminded both of them. “The fact that I received some makes me think that they maybe really aren’t.”

“Well, shit. Then she had to move for nothing?” Jennifer asked, frowning.

“Not for nothing. That’s how we found the trackers in her shoes,” Mason pointed out.

“So, now we know that he was tracking her while they were together, which points to his obsession with her. It also means it’s likely that he is still pursuing her.

Jaxon is working on reversing the signal to see if we can track him.

Even if that doesn’t work, we can use the trackers to hopefully trap him. So, it wasn’t for nothing.”

“There is that.” Jennifer sighed and turned to look at David. “She’s living with you now? Is she still going to be able to come to game night?”

“Yes, she’s there with my grandmother now.

I don’t know about game night.” He glanced at Mason.

“It might depend on what else happens this week. We know she had the trackers in her shoes, so if that’s the only way Don was keeping tabs on her, it might be safe.

On the other hand, he’ll also know that it’s her normal routine to go there.

So, if we haven’t found him by then, it might not be safe for her. ”

Jennifer scowled.

“That sucks. She shouldn’t have to miss out on game night. Maybe we can do it at your house?”

“Maybe.” David was not the type of person who liked a bunch of people in his space. On Saturday, it had been necessary and protection related. Having a bunch of people over playing games and eating and talking…

But it would also make Cassidy happy, and that would be worth the invasion and the cleanup. Jennifer was right. Cassidy shouldn’t have to miss out on something she enjoyed. David wasn’t going to let Douchebag take that away from her if he could help it.

“If we’re lucky, we’ll find him in the next few days, and you’ll be able to gather at Claudia’s like normal,” he said fervently. Fingers crossed. He’d tolerate it if he had to, but he could still hope it wouldn’t be necessary.

“Find him and bury him,” Jennifer muttered.

“Inside thought, Jennifer,” Mason said immediately. “Or at least, don’t say it in front of witnesses.”

Jennifer just snorted.
