Chapter twenty-seven

Kai

It’s hard not to be too obvious about staring at Isabelle when she stands up from the beach chair and stretches. Thank fuck for sunglasses is all I can say.

“Okay, I’m going to head up and start packing.

I’m going to turn into a lobster if I stay in the sun any longer,” she comments, tying her long hair in a ponytail.

Everyone else acknowledges her statement but nothing more.

I, on the other hand, immediately start plotting how I can possibly sneak up there with her without anyone catching on.

Five minutes later, the universe smiles down at me and I get my chance.

“Yami, you wanna go for one more boat ride?” Sin walks up from the water. “Darling wants to go tubing and the girls are gonna ride with me.”

“Nah, I’m good,” I reply, keeping my tone casual. “I might go take a shower. Don’t want sand in my car, y’know?”

He gives me a long look. “Yeah. Sand.”

I flash him a smile that I can only hope convinces him that’s the only reason I’m heading up to the cabin. “Yep.”

He turns and heads back down to the water’s edge where the others are laughing and getting ready for a boat ride.

Still, I force myself to wait a couple more minutes until they’ve pushed away from the shore and are headed out into the middle of the lake before I jump up and jog up the path toward the cabin.

I can hear the shower running as soon as I step inside, and I’m immediately grinning. As soon as I get in the bedroom Isabelle and I have been sharing, I strip down, then go to the bathroom. It’s filled with steam, and she’s humming softly when I open the door and step in.

“Kai! What are you doing?” She blinks the water out of her eyes, staring at me in horror.

“It’s fine, baby,” I murmur, running my hands along the silky wet strands of her hair. “Everyone else is out on the boat.”

She chews on her lip, and I force myself to wait for her to process that information. Even though what I want to do is hike her legs up around my waist and fuck her in this shower.

“We shouldn’t,” she whispers, but her hands land on my chest and I fight back my grin of victory. “We’ve already pushed our luck a few times this trip.”

I lean down and kiss her shoulder. My dick is hard, and there’s nothing between us. “What’s one more time, then?”

“Kai,” she half whispers, half moans, and that’s all it takes. We come together, kissing and touching each other. But just as I’m lifting her leg up to wrap it around my waist, the sound of voices filters in through the open window.

“Shit!” Isabelle hisses, pushing me away. “Get out, get out, get out!”

I don’t argue, snatching up the towel I was smart enough to bring in with me, wrapping it around my waist and hustling back to our bedroom just in time.

I’ve closed the door to our room right as I hear the front door to the cabin open.

I yank on some shorts and slam a hat on my head before opening the door again.

“Hey! What happened to tubing?”

Willow rolls her eyes in Sin’s direction. “Someone didn’t realize the boat was nearly out of gas. We almost didn’t have enough to get back to shore.”

I laugh, trying not to glance down the hall. The shower has turned off, and out of the corner of my eye, I see Isabelle dart across the hall to our room.

Fuck, that was close.

A couple of hours later, and we’re all heading outside, ready to load bags into our vehicles and head home.

“Kai, do you mind giving Isabelle a ride home?” Willow calls out from near Sin’s truck. “We’ve got to make a stop on the way.”

“No prob,” I reply, taking Isabelle’s bag over to my car and putting it in the trunk. I look over at her with a twist of my lips. “Ready, Iz?”

“Yep,” she replies, and damn, we need to work on her poker face. Or voice. Because it’s not natural for her to sound so high-pitched.

Everyone says their goodbyes before making their way to their respective vehicles. I look over the roof of my car at Isabelle, who’s got a knowing smirk on her face.

“Stop looking so pleased with yourself,” she says quietly, and I simply shrug my shoulders.

“I’m allowed to be happy.”

We get in the car, and I wait until the doors close before I say the next thing.

“But when we get back to Vancouver, we’re finishing what we started in that shower.”
