Page 11 of Cryptic Dreams
I really do like Orion, and while I’m older with more power in my little finger than he has in his entire body, he is an exceptional empath and it borders on fucking psychic.
“Perhaps.” I shrug and take a drink of my gin and tonic. “I’d have to know what you were talking about in order to confirm or deny, but let’s just say my day was spent gloriouslybusyin multiple ways.”
“Excellent,” he says as his smile grows. “We’re still meeting tomorrow though, right? I want details, Wraith. Nothing left to the imagination.”
A grin tugs at my lips as I arch a brow. “I’m not one to kiss and tell, something you are well aware of.”
Orion chuckles then motions for a waitress who rushes toward us and practically trips over her own feet in order to get to her boss quicker. “Bring me a beer, would ya, Kat? I seemed to have misplaced mine.”
She nods emphatically and barely glances at me before she does a double take that will surely give her whiplash.
My brow raises higher as I stare at her, her thoughts screaming in my direction.
Oh my god, a Descendant.
I’ve never seen a Descendant before.
Wow, he’s so hot.
Those black eyes, wow.
And if what they say about regular vampires is true, I bet Descendants have dicks bigger than horses.
I roll myblack eyesand turn back to Orion, the bugger chuckling into his closed fist. Damn him for being able to read her better than he can read me.
Katscurries off to obtain a beer for my... well, I suppose he is myfriend, and just as I open my mouth to review tomorrow’s plan, movement to my right catches my eye.
My female has slid herself over all the way next to Aries, her obviously tall and curvaceous body almost in his lap while the other male advances toward her and seemingly ignores Aries’s scowl.
“Shit,” Orion sighs as he follows my gaze. “I told him it wasn’t a good idea.”
“Oh?” I grunt through clenched teeth while I attempt to burn holes into the side of that male’s head with my eyes alone. Not that I have the ability to do so, it’s probably one of the only powers I don’t possess, and despite how much I’d like to, I won’t use any of them while I’m inside Plasma simply because I don’t want to make trouble for Orion.
He nods as he pops a hip against the table. “Aries is always trying to fix her up with someone. He just wants everyone to be happy like we are, especially someone we both love, but Loki was not a good choice.”
“Loki?” My teeth are going to crack down the middle, my fangs surely protruding from my lower lip when they do. I can already feel them elongate, trying to stretch to their full length in order to strike fear into the hearts of everyone within a one hundred mile radius of my female. “Norse?”
Not that it fucking matters.
I am a Descendant, practically a god among my kind. Blood of the original vampire runs through my veins and I would be next in line for the throne if my daft sire hadn’t changed everything. I can kill thisLokiwith a mere look alone, a simple narrowing of my eyes and focusing of my thoughts would have him spontaneously combusting in that dark fucking booth. I can’t burn holes in his head but I can dothat.
Norse or not, he is no match for me.
But Orion shakes his head. “No. He was born here like me, just calls himself Loki because he’s an idiot.”
I smirk and decide right then and there Orion is most definitely my friend, maybe my best fucking friend since he clearly harbors some disdain toward the imbecile failing to impress the goddess before him.
“Goddamnit,” he grunts and rubs a palm over his dark hair. “I might have to go break this up. Aries doesn’t seem to be having any luck, and if Z gets any more panicked, she might crawl under the table and try to make a break for it.”
“Z?” My eyes snap in their direction, and when I see the unmistakable panic Orion spoke of marring her beautiful face, well, I growl like a fucking arsehole and earn a puzzled look from my friend.
He nods slowly. “Zephyr, my cousin. I thought I introduced you to her?”
“You have not.”
“Really?” Orion scratches his chin. “I meant to. Z is studying at Tulane University—online of course. Vampire history and hierarchy major with a double minor in genealogy and folklore.”
Oh, I am so bloody fucked.
