"Shh." I peck her on the lips. "Tell me about where you grew up. I don't know a lot about you and I want to know everything."
Her lips twitch. "It's a little beach town called Montezuma. The beach is on one side of the village, and the jungle is on the other. It's pretty laid-back."
"Sounds amazing. Did you want to move to Belize?"
Her face drops. "I'm not sure. Miguel was always obsessed with Belize, even when we were kids. It was always part of the dream."
"You mean his dream?"
She quietly admits, "Yeah."
I stroke her cheek. "What was your dream?"
She scrunches her forehead. "I... I just wanted to make Miguel happy."
My anger toward Miguel isn't diminishing. Everything she tells me regarding their life together sounds so one-sided and all about what he wanted.
"Let's add to your bucket list, then. Besides swimming with little piggies, what else do you want to do?"
"I don't know. Everything you talked about sounds fun, except for your crazy canoe dream."
I snort. "Gotta have one insane thing."
"Pretty sure you nailed that requirement."
"If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?"
"I don't know. I've been all over Central and South America but mostly in airports or hotels. I've never really gotten to explore the countries I fly to, since I always wanted to get home to see Miguel. I did win a trip to Amsterdam when I was younger with a few other flight attendants, but that's the only place I've gone. Miguel always wanted us to save to move to Belize."
I bite my tongue about what I want to say about Miguel.
"So, that's when you became a porno theater fan?"
She slaps my chest, and I wince. "Oh, jeez! Your bruises. I'm sorry!"
"I'll survive." I pull her back to me. "But the porno theater isn't an obsession of yours?"
"Ha! Very funny."
"Hey, I'm not judging you if it is."
She rolls her eyes, smiling. "So, where would you move if you could go anywhere?"
"Good question. After I sold the house in Dublin, I tried to figure out where I should land, but I couldn't decide."
"You've been all over, it sounds like."
"Yeah, I've traveled a lot for work and got to see more than it sounds like you did for your job. But I used to come home as soon as possible, too." My stomach growls.
"You hungry?" she asks.
"Little bit. You?"
"I could eat. Wonder what they have in this barn."
I dig into my backpack and pull out a military macro bar. "How hungry are you?"
"Nothing extreme."
