Page 94 of Burn the World Down
I crashed to the concrete and heard Georgie scream. My nerveless fingers dropped the gun. My legs wouldn’t move, my arms wouldn’t move. Pain throbbed through my head.
I saw Georgie’s pretty shoes.
Fight it, Oakley.
She needs you.
But I couldn’t move. The pain was too much. It had claws and it latched onto me, digging in deep, and dragging me under.
CHAPTER 34
GEORGIE
In horror, I watched Nash fall to the floor.
My insides froze and all my muscles locked. I couldn’t breathe.
Nash.
He’d gone down hard. Snyder stood over him, clutching a tire iron. He reared his arm back, about to hit Nash again.
“No!” I lunged forward and knocked his arm away.
The tire iron flew through the air and hit the windshield of a sportscar. The glass cracked.
Snyder shoved into me. I fell on my ass.
My gaze locked on Nash. He wasn’t moving. I saw blood on his head.
Help him, Georgie. Protect him.
Nausea welled. How badly was he hurt? I couldn’t lose him.
I scrambled to my feet and pulled out my handgun. I aimed at Snyder.
At the man who’d caused me so much pain. Who’d caused much death and destruction.
The man who’d hurt the ones I loved.
He’d killed Viv.
He’d hurt Nash.
I swallowed and stared at Snyder.
He made a scoffing sound, scorn on his handsome face. “You haven’t got what it takes to kill me.” He pulled out his own gun.
He didn’t aim at me.
He aimed down at Nash.
“Now, me, I’m happy to pull the trigger. I’ll fill your hired muscle with bullets, then you’re next.”
I felt sick. I wanted to shoot him.
For my sister.
I wanted him dead.
