Page 54 of Burn the World Down
A part of me didn’t want her anywhere near the man.
But I’d promised to help her.
I grabbed my cellphone and pressed it to my ear. Bastian answered in under a second.
“How’s your girl?”
“Sleeping,” I said quietly. “Getting better.”
“That’s good.”
I heard the sound of voices and a honking horn. “Where are you?”
“I told Landon I’d help him at the clinic tonight. The man totally ignores the paperwork. If it wasn’t for me, he’d run the place into the ground.”
Picturing Bastian in the cramped back office at Landon’s clinic made me grin. “Your good guy is showing.”
Bastian made a sound. “Don’t insult me. I’m doing his books and investments, but there is no way I’m going near any blood or other bodily fluids.”
I was silent for a moment. “It won’t be much longer and she’ll want to attack Snyder.”
“I’m guessing she’s not the pretty, sweet girl you left behind in Idaho anymore.”
No, she wasn’t. Instead, she was a beautiful, courageous woman who’d done everything she could to save her sister.
“She deserves her vengeance, Nash.”
“I know.”
“We’re digging into Snyder and collating everything. When Georgie’s ready, bring her into the security office. She can look over the intel. Better that she’s prepared. You can’t shield her from everything.”
I grunted.
“I can tell you that not many people like doing business with Snyder,” Bastian said. “He’s a bully, habitually undercuts his suppliers, and likes to throw his weight around.”
“If he does it to women, I’m not surprised he does it in his business dealings as well.” Georgie shifted and I rubbed my thumb soothingly against her temple.
She was already looking more rested and relaxed after just a few days. I wanted to keep her here forever, keeping the world away from her. But I knew that she needed her revenge.
To truly heal, she needed to know that Snyder wouldn’t hurt anyone else.
“I’ll bring her in when she’s ready.”
“Good. We’ll keep gathering information. The more we have, the better we can find his weaknesses and the best spot to hit him. Then, we can help your girl take him down.”
“Thanks, Bastian.”
“We’ll keep her safe. I’ve always got your back. You know that.”
“I do.”
“How about you take her out for dinner tomorrow? You can’t keep her locked away in your villa forever.”
“She might like that.”
“Call Eloise at Elysium. You can have my table.”
I knew that Bastian kept a private table at the restaurant. It was separate from the main floor and away from prying eyes. “I might do that.”
