“Going out a lot, being on the scene, and trying to run his pockets doesn’t make you a boss. It makes you a hoe.” Bree chimed in making Kelli kiss her teeth.

“Not the sisters ganging up on me. Bree, you do the same thing I do.”

“You’re damn right. I don’t have an issue treating men like tricks, but don’t sit up here and act like Deonte can’t genuinely like my sister. She’s pretty and smart. Who wouldn’t like her?”

Kelli didn’t even respond. I could tell she was pissed, and I didn’t care.

She couldn’t feel some kind of way and throw shade because she wanted Deonte, and the feelings weren’t mutual.

They acted as if they had to have every man with money in the area.

They didn’t let anything get past them, and it was sick.

“You got any X?” Hailey asked me.

Before I could tell her that I didn’t, Bree told them what she’d seen earlier and how Craig was more than likely in jail.

By the time we arrived at the club, it was packed.

I called Deonte hoping he’d answer because if he didn’t it would be embarrassing.

Without him, the only way we’d be allowed to enter the VIP section was if we paid.

We could afford it, especially if we split it four ways, but I’d be ready to smack Kelli if she got smug about us not getting in the section after all.

He didn’t answer, but thankfully, he texted me.

(984)555-2398: I can’t hear. It’s loud as hell in here, but when you get to the door, ask for Jinx, and tell him your name. He’ll get the bottle girl to bring you back.

We had to wait in line for less than two minutes.

When I asked for Jinx and gave security my name, my heart rate increased a bit.

I was still thinking about how embarrassing it would be if we didn’t get let in the section for some reason.

But soon after I asked for Jinx, a tall, dark-skinned server appeared at the door with a smile.

She guided us through the congested club to Deonte’s section.

I was pretty sure that Kelli was behind me spitting nails.

I was in the lead while they followed me to the designated area.

Things like that didn’t matter to me, but it mattered to her.

They always called themselves trying to put me up on game, yet a man that wouldn’t give her the time of day was interested in me. The irony.

The section was right next to his and once we were inside, I smiled at him and mouthed “Thank you.”

Deonte walked over to the side we were on with a bottle of champagne in his hand. He gave me a one-armed hug, and he smelled delicious. “You’re welcome. Turn up and have fun.”

“I will.”

“Let me know if you need anything.”

I nodded, and he attempted to walk off, but Kelli stepped in front of him. “You can’t speak?” her tone was thick with attitude.

If I was a different type of female, I would have cursed her out. If I did want Deonte like that, she would have been out of line. I still couldn’t believe that he wanted me, but she wasn’t even attempting to respect what it was.

I turned to look at my sister. “If I was in a bad mood, I’d dog walk her ass.”

Deonte chuckled. “My bad. I don’t even remember your name. What is it again?”

Kelli’s nostrils expanded with anger as I snickered. “I see you’re on your best bullshit tonight, so I’m going to walk away. Just know that it’s your loss.”

Deonte grinned. “What did I lose baby? A chick that everybody else has already had? I’ll be sure to cry in the car.”

My eyes ballooned out of my head, and I turned to look at my sister as Kelli’s mouth fell open. She stood astonished as Deonte walked away.

“Oh, baby, I need a drink,” I giggled. Walking over to the table that contained the liquor and chasers in buckets of ice, I decided on tequila and poured myself a healthy shot. I then grabbed a Red Bull.

When I pivoted to walk away, Kelli was waiting behind me with a red face. She looked like she wanted to kill someone with her bare hands, and I kindly eased past her because if she took her anger out on me it wasn’t going to be pretty for her.

Me, Bree, and Hailey had a great time turning up. Kelli sat on the couch drinking and pouting for the first hour. She got Hailey to accompany her to the rest room, and then she came back and stood in front of me.

“I’m ready to go.” Her words were a bit slurred. I wasn’t surprised that she was drunk after all of the free alcohol she’d sucked down.

“Okay. You can leave. Me and my sister can get a ride share home.” I couldn’t speak for Hailey, but I wasn’t ready to go, and I was sure Bree wasn’t either.

“Cool.” Kelli walked over to Hailey, and I looked at my sister and shook my head.

“That’s your friend.”

“And your friend is coming this way.”

Turning my head to see who she was talking about, the moment I did, Deonte was in my personal space. “You good over here?” his eyes were low, and I could tell he was inebriated.

The way he peered down at me like he wanted to eat me up had my kitty aching for him. It had nothing to do with him being in the NBA but everything to do with him being sexy as hell. I was sure if I slept with him, however, it would for sure give groupie vibes.

“I’m very good. Thank you for all of this tequila and a good time.”

“That’s all you’ll ever have with me is a good time.”

Oh baby, the way my yoni ached for him was getting dangerous. “You have someone upset,” I attempted to deflect.

Deonte snorted. “She’ll be okay. I guess she thinks I don’t know she’s already slept with two of my teammates. Her name floats around the locker room heavy. I’m good on that. Even if it’s for a good time and not a long time, I still don’t want community pussy.”

“I respect that. I really do because most men don’t care, and that’s just nasty.”

Deonte shook his head. “I never played those kind of games. I had an uncle that died from AIDS. The woman that gave it to him was a pretty ass chick that used to stay fly. She fucked all the big time dope boys in the city and by the time my uncle started dealing with her, it was a wrap. Two months after he had sex with her for the first time, she got real sick. Shorty stayed in the hospital for like three weeks saying she didn’t know what was wrong with her.

A month after that, she was gone. The rumors started circulating, but my uncle was too scared to go get tested.

Two years later, he got real sick the same way she did and three weeks after that, he was gone. ”

“Wow that’s sad.”

“Yeah. I done got all heavy in the club and shit,” he chuckled. “But I’m going to hit you tomorrow, and maybe we can grab a bite to eat.”

“Sure,” I smiled.

Deonte hugged me and walked off. Kelli stormed out of the section right behind him.

She was alone because Hailey didn’t want to leave either.

Even if it did bother me to see a man giving another woman the attention that I wanted from him, I’d never throw a tantrum behind it.

Kelli had an entire roster. Her ego was just bruised. She’d be okay and if not, then oh well.
