Page 18 of Bewitched By a Vampire
Almost had her hand on the knob when he seized hold of her again and violently pulled her back to him.
“Leave me alone,” she yelled as he tugged her towards one of the drawing rooms, a salacious grin plastered on his face that warned her that she had only whetted his appetite by trying to escape the mansion and him. “Unhand me!”
Other words rose to the tip of her tongue. A defensive spell. She moved her lips to form the first word, unwilling to let this vampire hurt her.
And then he suddenly stopped.
She looked beyond him.
To Night.
Her ears rang, all the strength flooding from her as he faced off against the vampire, his words lost on her as his expression darkened by degrees. Vampires gathered to watch, two beautiful females stopping behind Night, their gazes locked on him. Magic curled through Lilian as she glared at them, and then Night was looking at her, accusation in his pale blue eyes.
She averted her gaze, a stupid move, one that had just confirmed what the vampire had said to him.
She had been trying to leave.
She busied herself with studying the fine pale marble tiles, avoiding Night’s piercing gaze.
The next thing she knew, the vampire released her and Night was seizing her arm, dragging her away from the fray and back up the stairs.
She grunted when she hit the wall at the top and bounced off it, and he was damned lucky he was saving her because otherwise she might have given him a taste of her magic.
Her arm ached where he gripped it and fear slowly morphed to anger as he roughly pulled her along behind him as if she was a ragdoll. She didn’t appreciate it when he flung her into her room again. It was getting old.
“I made it very clear you were to stay in this room… but apparently you do not know how to follow orders,” he barked, rage pouring off him.
He had no damned right to be angry with her and he certainly didn’t have the right to accuse her of not knowing how to follow orders. Her ability to follow orders was the only reason he had met her, the only reason she had decided to return tonight after she had lifted some of the weight from her shoulders.
It was the only reason she had chosen to put her life at risk to save that of another.
Lilian turned on him and clenched her fists at her sides. “I’m not your property.”
She tried to ignore the way her entire body trembled as his eyes narrowed on her.
“No. You belong to my brother,” he countered.
And something crossed his handsome face, something she couldn’t decipher.
She stepped up to him and tipped her head back as she snarled, “I belong to no one.”
That struck a nerve. His striking eyes widened and she smiled at him, fury flowing through her veins that wasn’t enough to obliterate the hurt and fear that ran through her too as she thought about what she was doing. This was going to end very badly, but she had put it out there now, and she could see in his eyes that she had surprised him, catching him off guard.
Because his brother was so perfect?
“You didn’t know your brother was into taking humans against their will?” she snapped and when he said nothing, she shook her head. “I can see it, Night. You didn’t know. If you had—”
“It’s none of my business,” he growled and pivoted away from her.
Oh no, he didn’t. He wasn’t getting away from her that easily.
She grabbed his arm, ignoring the hot wave of lightning that chased up hers the moment she touched him. His arm tensed beneath her grip, his shoulders going rigid, and her magic rose to protect her.
Because it felt he was a threat.
When he remained facing away from her, she inched closer to him.
“Night,” she whispered, trying to get his attention.
