“Then what’s the issue?”
“Any time we end up in the same room together, it’s like he can’t get away from me fast enough.”
Blinking at me, she said, “I’m confused. Do youwanthim to stay?”
My eyes slammed shut. “Ugh, I don’t know. Maybe?”
“All right.” Summer clapped her hands. “What I think you need is a night out.”
“How is a night out going to help with Enzo giving me the cold shoulder?”
A smirk curved on her lips. “Trust me on this one.”
“Not like I have much of a choice,” I grumbled under my breath.
Blue eyes sparking, she began, “Now here’s what you’re going to do . . .”
Chapter 14
Enzo
Therewasnowhereinthis house I could go where I didn’t run into Allison, so I’d taken to hiding out in my office—the only place that was safe from her presence, since she’d been warned it was off-limits.
Confined to a single room, I spent most of my time watching the security feeds. There was something oddly soothing about ensuring the safety of my property and the people—or rather, person—inside.
Even though I could keep her out of this room, Allison always found a way to sneak into my brain. Hell, she lived there rent-free.
It had been absolute torture these past few weeks being back under the same roof. I swear, I literally couldn’t turn around without bumping into her.
And fuck, finding out that she cooks? My stomach had nearly revolted when I turned down the offer to join her for dinner. Especially, when all ingested later that night was half a bottle of scotch.
I was barking up Nico’s ass, demanding he work faster in his pursuit to follow the digital trail that would lead us to the culprits who had stolen our warehouse from right under our noses. The sooner we uncovered who wasconspiring against our family, the sooner we could deal with them. And then I could get out of this house, allowing life to go back to normal. Well, at least, the new normal I’d found since marrying Allison.
Reclining in my desk chair, I stared at the grid of black-and-white images displayed on the monitor. All was quiet tonight, as it should be.
Almost like I’d spoken too soon, a flash of something caught my attention, and I leaned forward, clicking a button that would expand the video feed from that room to fill the entire screen.
“What the hell?”
Allison was coming down the main staircase in the foyer.
That wasn’t unusual, in and of itself, but what she was wearing sure as fuck was.
I stood so suddenly that my rolling chair hit the wall with a sharp bang before toppling over. I didn’t bother to right it, storming from the room in the direction of my wife.
My thundering footsteps could barely be heard over the rush of blood in my ears.
When I reached the foyer, her hand was poised on the doorknob. She was seconds away from making her escape.
“Allison!” I boomed her name so loud it echoed off the high ceilings, and she spun around, eyes wide.
“Enzo.” Her breathy voice went straight to my dick. Traitor.
Slowing my steps, I shoved both hands in my pockets and cocked my head to the side. “Going somewhere?”
Allison smoothed her hands over the shimmery silver fabric encasing her mouthwateringly lush curves like a second skin. Speaking of skin, there was entirely too much of it on display. Her arms were completely bare, and her legs were exposed from the knee down. Not to mention the creamy swellsof her large breasts were pushed so high they nearly spilled from the top of her dress.
“Uh, yeah.” My wife fidgeted with her clutch. “Summer invited me out for a girls’ night with her and her friend . . .”—her nose wrinkled in concentration—“Tabby, I think it was?”
