Peering up at Dion, he has a silly smile on his face. He leans down pecking my lips quickly when her eyes go to my wrist connected to Tara’s. Her brows furrow and her eyes hold worry for a second, and I chew my lip when her eyes flick to Dion.

“You handcuffed your mate?” she asks, and I can see the worry in her eyes.

“She is still adjusting to being here, I’m a little paranoid,” Dion admits, saving me from trying to come up with some embarrassing explanation.

“Paranoid?” she questions like she doesn’t believe him. I say nothing, wondering how he would explain his way out of this one when he doesn’t bother, instead giving the truth.

“I killed her parents, kidnapped her, she’ll come around eventually,” he says as if it’s the most normal thing in the world. She looks slightly frightened at his words.

“Well, I should check on the others,” she says quickly, rushing off, and I sigh. Well, that went from embarrassing to very awkward. Shaking off his arms. I turn to Tara.

“I’m out of blankets,” I tell Tara, stepping away from Dion, who growls behind me. Tara’s eyes move to Dion behind me, and she nods once.

“Come on, we will check the back shelves, we are still a few short,” Tara tells me, and I follow her back to the storage room.

“I think I saw another bag on the top shelf,” I tell Tara as we try to find more blankets in the huge storage space filled with emergency supplies. My mind keeps going back to Dion.

“Where?” Tara asks as we try to peer into the dark room when a shadow forms. It steals the little light left coming in through the door after we broke the light bulb cover, which in turn smashed the bulb as we helped drag the mats out.

I feel his presence before I even have a chance to turn around. Tara jumps as he brushes our arms stepping into me, the heat of his chest seeps into my back and one arm slips around my waist.

Warmth washes over me, and I can’t help but lean into his embrace. Perfectly content, I stand still, in Dion’s arms, and let myself enjoy it. For a minute, I allow myself to pretend I am safe and have nothing to worry about.

Without a word, he holds his hand out to Tara, snapping me back to the fact we aren’t alone here. Tara quickly passes him the key. He undoes her cuff, and I wait for him to undo mine, he doesn’t. “You can go, Tara,” he tells her, and she leaves hastily.

I exhale, glad she is free when Dion fiddles with the cuff, about to clamp it on his wrist, clearly still not trusting me. “What’s got into you?” he demands, and I clench my teeth.

“Nothing,” I say, through gritted teeth.

“Hmm, I would disagree. First you growl at her for touching me then run from me the moment she wanders off. Which is it, Emery, are you jealous or angry. You’re really hard to follow with your crazy mixed signals.”

He tightens my handcuff, opening the other to snap on his wrist.

“Dion.”

He pauses for a second and I glance up at him over my shoulder to find his amber eyes peering back at me eerily in the darkness.

“I won’t run,” I whisper to him, hoping he won’t put the handcuff on me.

He ignores me, returning to handcuff himself, and I let out a growl, not meaning to.

I clamp my free hand over my mouth at what I did when he suddenly growls back, but not in an angry way.

More playfully when he undoes my handcuff. I rub my wrist, which is aching.

“I didn’t mean to growl at you.”

He laughs softly. “Yeah, you did. You thought I wasn’t removing it. But it’s okay, at least now I know you do have a wolf, and she is quite a possessive little thing. It’s just a matter of her breaking the veil that separates you both,” he states, and I glance up at him.

“And if she doesn’t?” I ask him curiously.

“She will, if you can growl, means you have a wolf. She’ll come forward when ready, change of environment might be stalling her.”

“I take you out there without the handcuffs, will you behave?” he questions as I rub my wrist. I nod and grab the last bag from the top shelf and I go to take it when instead he grabs my hand, lacing his fingers through mine.

“Come on, let’s finish up here. We should be in bed and the sun is due to rise soon,” he reminds me. Just the thought of the sun rising makes me yawn.

We finish handing out the blankets and once everyone is settled and fed, only then do we leave the huge gymnasium and head back toward Dion’s room. It makes me nervous, and I stop on the stairs, glancing at my door.

“You sleep in our room now,” Dion says, not leaving any room for argument. I open my mouth to argue, but one sharp look from him makes me sigh.

“Can I grab my grandmother’s jewelry box at least?” I ask, and he presses his lips in a line before nodding. I quickly rush back to my room, grabbing my jewelry box, relieved he allowed it since the Belladonna is safely tucked inside it.

Turning around, I all but run into him. He takes the jewelry box from me, eyeing it suspiciously before opening it. “What’s so important about this jewelry box anyway, it has nothing of value in it,” he asks. I snatch it off him worried he’ll break it.

“It has sentimental value, surely you kept something of your family,” I growl at him.

“Like what, the clothes they abandoned me in?” he laughs, shaking his head before walking out of the room. I stare after him, wondering what he meant when I remembered the rogue woman from the gym saying her father knew Dion.

Dion remains quiet as I follow him, realizing I barely know the man. All I know is he is feared by all and he’s a Hybrid. Also, that he is a murderer.

When we are back in the room, Dion locks the door behind me, and I glance around the room wondering where I can put my jewelry box. “Put it wherever you want, it’s your room, too,” he offers, and I raise an eyebrow at him.

“What?” he asks, undoing the buttons on his shirt when he finds me staring at him. “If it’s my room too, does that mean I get a say in anything within it?” I ask him.

He smiles deviously. “Depends, what it is you want?” he asks before waiting for me to answer. My eyes dart to the huge cross across the room.

“No,” he answers, seeing where my mind went. “That stays, how else will I keep you in line?” he asks, and my face falls. Huffing, I move to the dresser beside the bed and set my jewelry box down on it when he moves behind me.

“If you behave, you won’t have to fear being punished,” he whispers.

I glare at him over my shoulder. “Glare at me all you want, it’s staying,” he growls before moving toward the bathroom. I watch the muscles of his back flex as he moves, my eyes drinking him in.

“Shower, Emery. You reek of rogue, and you’re not climbing into my bed smelling like that,”he calls out from the bathroom.

“Well then, I think I rather stink if it means not sharing a bed with you!” I snap at him.

He laughs, sauntering back out of the bathroom with only a towel wrapped lowly around his waist. My eyes trail over his sinful body, my core clenching.

He is gorgeous, but I am not a puppet for him to order around, and he is not my puppeteer.

Dion watches me for a second before leaning against the bathroom door and folding his arms across his broad chest. “I hear it is quite uncomfortable to sleep standing,” he tells me.

“I’m fine on the floor,” I say bitterly.

“Honestly, Emery, I’m appalled you would think I would let my mate sleep on the floor,” he says. I snort and shake my head.

“Well, I’m not sleeping in the bed with you smelling of rogue,” I retort.

“Correct, you stink so shower or…” his eyes dart behind me and I peer over my shoulder at the cross. “I much prefer you in the bed, but if you want me to tie you to my cross, I don’t mind either, though I couldn’t imagine it being a very comfortable position to sleep in,” he says thoughtfully.

I gape at him, disgusted he would expect me to sleep in his torture device, not that I should be surprised, he has no issues locking me in the trunk of his car or handcuffing me to objects or people.

“I guess we’ll find out,” he says, pushing off the door and moving toward me. My eyes widen seeing him approach me. “Fine, I’ll shower!” I snap at him before rushing past him to the bathroom.

Dion snickers but follows me and I glare at him as he starts the shower.

I hesitantly pull off my clothes while sitting on the edge of the bath.

However, Dion has no care in the world as he drops his towel, revealing his raging hard on, which is barely an inch from my face.

I near choke on my spit, as I glare up at him to find him smiling deviously.

Averting my gaze, I pull my socks off when I feel his hands unclip my bra before I can.

“Do you mind?” I snap at him.

“Not at all, but you seem to be taking your time. I’m tired. Now get in the shower, Emery,” he says, stepping in himself. He adjusts the other shower head, turning it on, making me realize there are two of them.

Stepping in the shower, I push my face under the stream to wet my hair.

Dion has his back to me, thankfully, and I reach for the shampoo.

Now I am curious about the man, about Anastasia, and his connection with the rogues.

How can he tolerate them, knowing rogues are responsible for killing his last Luna?

Closing my eyes, I begin rinsing the shampoo out before finding the courage to ask him about her.

“How come you let the rogues stay when they killed Anastasia and your baby?” I ask him.

The tension in the room ripples as his aura slips out unexpectedly.

He says nothing at first, but I can feel by his aura he doesn’t like my line of questioning.

I hastily wash the shampoo out, desperate to open my eyes, worried he will snap and kill me.

I instantly regret asking when I open my eyes, I find him watching me with an intensity that makes me nervous.
