“Yeah?” I had my hands behind my back already, and was feverishly trying to slide the second bracelet into place.
“You awake?”
“Trying not to be,” I said, finally closing the second bracelet.
He opened the door and came in. He shut the door behind him, as if he didn’t want to wake up the other two.
“Sorry,” I said, my voice a soft whisper. “I pace when I can’t sleep.” Which actually wasn’t a lie. “Helps me burn off the excess energy.”
“I can’t sleep, either,” he said, his voice equally low. “You try the breathing exercises the docs teach you?”
“Who said I saw any docs?”
“Don’t tell me you’re not ex-military, Ambyr. We’re past that point, aren’t we?”
I sighed. “I try them, but they don’t work as well anymore. The pacing does.” I laid back on the bed again.
“Alright, then. Just wanted to make sure everything was okay.” He grasped the door behind him and went to return to the landing.
“Morgan,” I breathed, having an idea. Probably a bad one, but one that might work.
“What?”
“I know this is is weird, but… But you wouldn’t mind tucking me in again, would you?”
“Um… Sure.”
“Thanks.”
He came over without turning on the lights and began to help me get settled. “How’s that?” he asked after the blankets were loosely pulled up and over me.
“That’s good. And, sorry for asking again. But, it was kind of nice the first time. I know, it’s weird…”
“Why’s it weird?”
“Maybe because I’m a bad-ass hired assassin?” I smiled a little as I gazed up at him. “Getting tucked in after a long day of trying to murder someone seems a little incongruent.”
“That’s fair, actually. But, listen, you should try and get some sleep. No idea about what tomorrow will be like.”
“Wait,” I whispered as he went to turn away. “There’s something else you could help me with.”
“What’s that?”
“When I really, really can’t sleep, sometimes… I, you know…” I glanced down my body for emphasis. “Have a little time to myself.”
He didn’t say anything in response–simply stared with those big ol’ green eyes like a deer stuck in my headlights.
“I wouldn’t ask, but I’ve been up for nearly twenty-hours straight already, and I just know that nothing else is going to help, especially with my hands cuffed like this.” I paused for emphasis, and to let my request settle in, then continued with a little more of a whine to my voice as I saw the lust creeping into his eyes. “Please, Morgan? I’m not asking you to fuck me, or anything. I’m just looking for something to relax me so I can get some rest. Look, I know you know what you’re doing…”
He went to shake his head, but I quickly whispered: “I’m definitely not going to tell Jericho, or Andrew, if that’s what you’re worried about. I’m already on thin enough ice with your boss as it is with all this, and he’s the one who’s going to determine what happens to me. Please, Morgan? Just one. A little one. I promise, that’s all I need.”
“Fine.” He let out a long sigh and ran a hand back through his hair. “But, one, and that’s it. And only because it’ll help you get to sleep.”
“Just one,” I whispered, then scooted over to make room for him.
“How do you want me…?” he asked as he opened the night stand’s top drawer and placed his sidearm inside.
“Just hold me, maybe?” I looked back at him as he was shutting the drawer, my breath already coming a little faster. “From behind?” Sure, I’d seduced men before. But, like with Grigori, seduction wasn’t exactly something I did because I wanted to.
