Next to me, Crux stirred in his sleep. Slowly, I slipped from his bed, and moved on tip-toe down the hall to my nest. Quietly closing the door, I breathed a sigh.

It felt wrong to flirt, to text another man, another alpha, while still sitting next to my sleeping mate, and marinating in our sexed up sheets.

I flopped down on my bed and looked at my phone to see if Rowan replied. Nothing. I turned on the tv in my nest, and flipped to the channel. I picked up my phone, and started typing, maybe in an effort to get him to respond.

Ohh, he’s showing Omega Sorority Slaughter Party. I haven’t seen this in ages. It’s the best one, but the series kinda drops off after.

Rowan

You like cheesy exploitation movies?

I used to watch Bite Mark with my dad. He’d let me stay up late and watch it with him. Mom never knew.

Rowan

Another thing we have in common?

I mean, I’ve only really seen Faster, Alpha, Kill, Kill, Dial B for Beta: The Butchered Betas Story, Lone Omega, and Blood of the Pack. Barely scratched the surface.

Rowan

Those are all classics. Your list might be short but it’s respectable.

Thanks! How big is your

List.

Lol.

If anyone asked, I’d insist I just hit enter prematurely.

I had, hadn’t I? Maybe it was a slip. I don’t know.

I wasn’t good at flirting. Or dirty talk.

Or innuendo. I never had to be. I was a sheltered, late bloomer omega, then suddenly I was scent matched and in love and it was all so easy and immediate. Insta-love.

This, with Rowan, was something else.

Rowan

My list is quite long. I could show you some time.

I bit my lip.

I’d like that.

Rowan

This might sound weird, and I know it’s late but… want to come over and we can watch the movie together?

The insides of my thighs were still slippery from slick, and I desperately needed a shower. Crux’s scent was stamped onto my skin and I honestly wanted to keep it for a while longer. I was in no condition to go jaunting off across town.

I didn’t even know where Rowan lived, anyway.

It’s too late tonight.

Rowan

Maybe tomorrow.

It is tomorrow.

Rowan

New plan. The drive-in is showing a double feature of The Evil Seed and Pack of the Dead. I could get us tickets?

I grinned at the screen. I’d never been to a drive-in before.

Absolutely.

Rowan

Cool. I’ll pick you up at 6?

Perfect.

I glanced at the television, watching the movie play on.

This is my favourite scene. With the flag pole.

I grinned as on screen, a sorority omega named Bethany was found run through like a spit-roasted pig on the school’s flag pole.

The white pole, streaked with red and lumps of gore, was coming out of her dislocated jaw.

A puddle of blood was more than enough to suggest how and where the pole had been inserted.

The flag, saturated with blood, struggled to fly.

I just think it’s neat on a technical and special effects level. Definitely the shot of the movie.

Rowan

Really??? You’re a little more twisted than I thought. Did you know the director had to prove how the stunt was achieved, while being accused of murder?

Of course. Wild, isn’t it?

We watched the movie, texting back and forth. By the time the credits started to creep up the screen, our replies had become further and further spaced as we both began to doze.

Drowsy, I lifted my phone to text a goodnight, only to see,

Rowan:

Thanks for staying up with me.

It was nice. I’m looking forward to tomorrow.

Rowan

Me too. Good night. Sleep tight.

I closed the app and turned off my screen. A pleasant warmth fluttered in my heart. The more I got to know him, the more I wanted to get to know.
