“Mkay,” I sigh and close my eyes. It doesn’t take long at all for the drugs to drag me into a catatonic state of sleep.
Chapter Thirty Eight
Adrian
As soon as wegot to the hospital, they took Alania back to surgery to stop the bleeding. I've never been so damn nervous before. And angry. God, I’m so fucking angry. How the fuck did that asshole get in? Julio is working on that, and I just need to be here.
“She jumped in front of it. What was she thinking?” I ask as I pace.
“That she loves you,” Brent says. “Please, sit down.”
“She’s in surgery, Brent,” I snap. “Shit. I’m sorry.”
“It’s fine,” he chuckles.
“Is she okay? What happened?” Cian asks, running into the room.
“Fucking Caleb got into the house somehow. He was going to shoot me but…” I start explaining, but stop. “Why did she do that? Why risk her life like that?”
“I know it’s hard to understand that someone would risk their life for you, but she loves you,” Brent says. “She would do that for a stranger if she could. That’s just who Alania is.”
“How bad is it?” Cian asks.
“Honestly, it shouldn’t be too bad. It exited through her back,” I say. “Julio said the bullet was found in the dresser, so it barely missed me, I suppose. She was bleeding a lot, but not so much that it was life-threatening, I guess. They haven’t really said much.”
Right then, Dr. Hammel comes into the room and we all stand. “Santos?” he says.
“Yes,” I say. “How is Alania?”
“She’s doing well. She is being moved into a room right now. Got the bleeding stopped. Very minimal damage, so she got lucky,”he says. “She is still asleep right now, but you all are welcome to come back and see her.”
“Thank you so much,” I say with a sigh.
We walk out of the waiting room and follow him through a series of doors before we get stopped outside of a patient room. He knocks gently before quietly walking in. When I see nothing but an empty bed, I have a horrible feeling in my gut. “Where the fuck is my wife?” I snap and shove him back against the door frame, and he immediately goes wide-eyed. Instead of answering me, he slips away and darts to the nurses’ station.
“Where is the patient in room 404? Alania? Where is she?” Dr. Hammel demands.
“Uhhh,” the young nurse stammers. “She was taken for scans, sir. Y-you ordered…”
“She just got out of surgery. I didn’t order anything, Valerie,” he says. “Who took her?”
“Uhm… another nurse, I think.”
“You think?” he snaps.
My world is spinning suddenly, and I can’t bring myself back down. Someone took her… not just moved to a different room. She’s gone. Alania is gone. Chaos is breaking out around me, but I can’t think. I can’t move.
My Little Dove… someone stole her from me…
