Until I forget my own name.
With one final nip at my bottom lip, he soothes the sting with a peck and leans back. Carrying my lax body with one arm around my waist, he rounds the desk and sits on his chair. I’m then maneuvered on his lap sideways, both my legs swing off one arm while my back presses against the other.
“Do you like fireworks?”
I’m still discombobulated from his kiss, high on his rich scent, that it takes a second for his question to filter in. Slanting my head to his, I answer, “Yes. It’s my favorite part of Diwali in India, though I feel guilty every time I light a firecracker. I try my best to limit my use of anything that could possibly pollute the air, and only use eco-friendly ones.”
He stares adorably at me when I go off into a whole monologue.
Blame it on my fuzzy brain.
And him.
And his passionate kisses.
“So, in conclusion, yes. I love fireworks,” I finish with a timid smile.
Caressing my thigh, he confesses, “Then you’ll enjoy where I’m taking you tonight.”
My eyes light up, and I demand, “Where?”
“It’s a surprise.”
It makes me happier and I grin. “When do we leave?”
“It’s outside of Zermatt. So, we’ll be taking a train,” he informs me. “It’s at three in the afternoon.”
“I’m so excited,” I sigh. Whatever he’s planned, it’s going to be perfect. Gazing at him, I remember our incomplete conversation. We haven’t talked about me leaving tomorrow. He’s said time and time again that he won’t let me go. It’s both scary and exhilarating to think about. I need to know exactly what he meant by that. “Kingston, I think we should talk—” His finger presses against my lips and he shakes his head.
“Tonight, we’ll celebrate,” he murmurs, shushing me and cupping my jaw. “We’ll worry about tomorrow when it comes. Okay, darling?”
Live in the present.
He’s giving me what I need.
What I asked of him in the beginning.
Somewhere along the way, my heart has changed, but I hold myself back from saying it. Instead, I lean into his palm and murmur, “Okay, King.”
Nonetheless, the feeling I’m on borrowed time pulses low, as the anticipation of our explosive afternoon together weighs heavily on my mind.
CHAPTER – 31
Twinkle
I don’t know about anyone else, but I declare the view from the trains in Switzerland as the best in the world. It’s unimaginable how one place could hold so much beauty and enchanting landscape.
It’s like being transported into a painting.
“Here, darling,” Kingston murmurs, drawing my attention.
I look at him holding out a simmering cup of coffee. Taking it from him, I reply, “Thank you.”
I take a long sip and admire his profile. I’ve been stealing glances since we left the cabin because I’m obsessed and cannot stop looking at him.
He looks like he stepped straight out of a mountain man magazine.
The leather jacket is gone, replaced with a dark brown plaid flannel jacket thrown over a fitted black t-shirt that brings out the color of his eyes. Dark denim jeans stretch over hismuscular legs as he reclines against the seat while letting me sit by the window. He does this all because he knows I love staring out at the view.
