Story: The Real Deal
"Yes, ma'am."
"Excellent. I would like to talk with you."
"Yes, ma'am."
"But first," she looked at Dr. Miller. "Have Riggs' release papers been processed, and is he cleared for release?"
"Everything by the book, Dr. Taylor."
"Then let's make it happen."
"Yes, ma'am," Dr. Miller and Gunner said simultaneously.
Russell chuckled, and Naomie looked at Riggs. "You ready, big guy?"
He squeezed her hand. "Lead on, boss. Lead on."
Chapter Three
Georgie Williams followed the surgeon, Mikal Thomason, to the room of the newest patient in their program. Dr. Thomason would be performing the surgery, and once the patient was fitted with a prosthesis, she, as the DPT or Doctor of Physical Therapy, would be in charge of his rehabilitation.
She'd been through her share of these meetings, but this one was special. Naomie Taylor was involved, the woman who'd created the IMES, which allowed the team at BioNow to create smart limbs that were the closest thing to natural as possible at the current level of technology.
Naomie was also the woman who'd brought Georgie to BioNow and provided her with a new limb when an auto accident took her left leg and the life of her parents. If it weren't for Naomie, Georgie wouldn't have a leg or career. Naomie had paid for her college and medical school.
Now, Naomie was bringing someone else in need to BioNow, and it must be someone important to her, because in exchange for them taking the patient into the program, she'd offered to create an upgraded IMES and give BioNow the patent.
To say Georgie was curious about the identity of this patient was an understatement. Naomie had given no information when she called to tell Georgie, and she'd specifically asked that Georgie be assigned the case.
Not only that, but Mass General was swarming with security, particularly on this floor.
Who the heckwasthis patient?
She was about to find out. Dr. Thomason stopped at a door, flanked on either side by two suited men.
One of them blocked his path, looked at his name tag, and spoke the information quietly. Georgie realized he must have a communication device. He did the same for her information and then waited.
Less than a minute later, he stepped out of their way. "You may enter."
"Thank you." Dr. Thomason knocked, and a moment later, the door opened, and there stood Naomie. She was a few years older but just as exotic and gorgeous as the day Georgie met her.
"Naomie," Dr. Thomason extended his hand and smiled warmly. "It’s good to see you again."
"For me as well, Mykel," Naomie clasped his hand. "I can't thank all of you at BioNow enough for this."
"I think we're the ones who are profiting from the arrangement. What you're doing is quite generous, Naomie. We're all feeling very blessed to have you working with us again and excited about the steps we can take forward with your help."
"We all want the same thing, Mykel. And right now, I want it for Riggs, so thank you again."
"My pleasure. And as you requested, I've asked Dr. Williams to sign on as the DPT in charge."
"Georgie," Naomie smiled and engulfed Georgie in a hug that felt very much to Georgie like a kind of homecoming. "I've missed you, little sister."
Georgie blinked back the tears. No one aside from Naomie would understand why she would have tears in her eyes, but then no one there understood what Naomie had done for her, not just in giving her back her mobility, but in everything she'd done, including making Georgie and her sister Tess feel part of Naomie's family.
"I've missed you," Georgie said and pulled back to smile at Naomie. "It's so good to see you."
"Yes, it is, and we'll have time to catch up later. Maybe dinner? But first, I want to introduce you and Mykel to everyone."
