Story: The Real Deal
“And we have to go somewhere public, a hotel. Nothing remote or secluded. Somewhere with a good restaurant.”
“Fine.”
"You agree?”
“Yes.”
“Good, then we'll leave Sunday evening. I can only get three consequitive days off, so we’ll have to be back no later than Wednesday night."
She saw it in his expression and heard the arrogance in his tone. He thought he'd out-maneuvered her. Maybe he had. Then, a thought popped into her head. Depending on where he plans to take her, it could be to her advantage.
"Fine."
"And on Sunday, you and I will see your SEAL buddy and tell him that you're transferring his case to another therapist so you can focus on your life and relationship with me."
“We can go see him but I won’t say that. We’re going away to see if we have any reason to move forward. I won’t tell him something I don’t know to be true.”
It was clear in the tension of his stance and the way his jaws clenched that he was angry. She didn’t care. There had to be rules.
"Whatever. Now be a good girl and let me in."
"Not a chance. Naomie is on her way over. She's staying with me for a few days. You need to leave."
She thought he was going to argue, the way his eyebrows drew together and the pinched set of his mouth. But then he gave in. "I'll see you on Sunday. Pack for a week."
“Three days.”
She expected him to argue. Instead he shrugged, “Fine.”
“Okay, where? Are we staying close to home? What kind of clothing will I need."
"Just your regular street clothes. Nothing fancy."
"Fine."
He turned to leave but paused and looked back at her. "And don't try anything, Georgie. If I get wind, you've alerted someone at the hospital of what I told you, I promise that child won't last the night. Do you understand?"
"Yes."
"Excellent. See you Sunday, sweetheart."
Georgie hurried to go inside, locked the door and the deadbolt, and then looked through the sidelight beside the door so she could see Josh. He got into his car and left.
God, what a mess. Georgie didn't know if she was doing the right thing or not. All she knew was that she couldn't let Josh hurt Riggs or the baby.
Which circled her back to the glimmers of an idea. It was that idea that kept her occupied until the doorbell rang. When she heard the sound, she quickly sent the file she’d created to a shared cloud drive then hurried to the door.
"Why didn't you use your key?" She asked as she opened the door for Naomie.
"Manners."
"I'm glad you're here," Georgie stepped aside. "Are you hungry?"
"Not particularly." Naomie entered and put her bags down in front of the foyer table.
"Thirsty?" Georgie headed for the kitchen.
"No," Naomie followed.
“Fine.”
"You agree?”
“Yes.”
