Story: Silver Tongue Devil
“Shut. Up.” He stepped closer. “The first thing I’m going to do is cut your tongue out and hang it alongside your head.”
“Please hang it so it displays my left side.” I twisted my head to him. “It’s my better side.”
“Kill him.”
Yeo’s men lurched for me.
“Stop!” Kat’s voice yelled next to me as she yanked down her hood, showing her face.
Yeo’s eyes widened, the first emotion I had ever seen on him. In a blink, he held up his hand, speaking in Chinese. The men came to a halt at his order.
“Katrina?” He gaped at her.
My head snapped back and forth between them. Her gaze flicked to me with a smirk before turning to him.
“Hello,tomodachi.”Friend.
“Baobei.”Treasure. He opened his arms, wrapping her in them.
What the fuck was going on?
“What are you doing here?” He pulled back, his gaze going to me with hatred. “With him?”
“Him?” She glanced back at me, an eyebrow curving up. With one word, Katrina could seek her revenge. End her connection with me right here. He would gladly kill me where I stood, and she could order it to happen.
I swear I could see the moment she debated the options, a smile curving her lips.
“Unfortunately, I need him. So, I can’t have you killing him right now.” She sighed like it was an inconvenience. “We need to be under your protection while we are here. Both of us.”
Yeo’s icy features locked on me for a moment, the scar at his mouth twitching before he dipped his head in agreement to her demands.
“Only because you ask, Katrina.” He spoke directly to her. “You are both under my protection, baobei. You have my word. But no trouble.” He pointed his finger at her. “No fighting. And I have to take your guns. It’s the law here.”
“Still old-school, huh?” she teased as his guards relieved us of only our pistols, leaving our blades.
“Only way to keep order. Plus, guns are human laziness the fae are picking up on too easily. We used to kill with honor and die with pride.” I had never seen this man show a shred of emotion or empathy, gutting a father in front of his child, but he treated Katrina like a goddess. “And,baobei, you don’t need anything more. You are one of the best fighters I have ever seen.”
“Thank you.” She kissed his cheek.
He gestured for his men to recede, glowering at me as he strolled off, his gang clumped around him.
Twisting to Kat, I shook my head. “What the fuck—”
She was in front of me in a blink. “You ever treat me like a subordinate again, I will cut out your tongue myself,” she muttered calmly, but her anger oozed out. “Do noteverforget who I am. I’mnotthe little girl you once knew, a girl who needs to be protected and saved. I have dropped leaders of lands to their knees, taken out dozens of fighters at once as they pissed themselves and pleaded for my pity.” She stepped back. “And never forget I just spared your life.” She whirled to go into the pub.
“How do you have Yeo wrapped around your finger?” I shot at her. “You sleep with him?”
She stopped as thunder shuddered overhead, rain pouring down, soaking into my clothes.
Slowly she turned to me, her glare filled with anger, disbelief, and disappointment that I asked her that. “No,” she spat. “But I am the reason he is the leader of the Triad now.” She flung open the door and marched inside.
I stood still in a mix of shock, fear, pride, and relief.
And my dick was harder than stone.
Shit… Scot might be right… I might be truly fucked.
