I lick my lips, willing my heart rate to calm down. “It’s my first time watching the clouds in a meadow.”
He squeezes and grins. “Thought so.”
I let my hand stay in his.
His gaze flicks down and then back up to mine. “Can I kiss you?”
A smile spreads across my face. I nod and close my eyes.
He leans in and his lips meet mine a little cautiously. They’re warm, soft, and unsure for half a breath. He’s not bold like Wes, but when I press back, his confidence builds. My hand lifts to his chest, fingers curling into his shirt. His find my waist.
We fall into a rhythm. His mouth moves like he’s figuring it out, adjusting with every pass. His lips part, and when I open for him, he kisses me deeper. I lean in, letting the kiss build as heat spreads through my chest. His thumb drags against my side, and a sound slips from my throat, catching me by surprise.
A low rumble rolls in the distance.Ford pulls back as it reminds us where we are. His breath brushes my cheek as he checks his watch. “Sounds like the rain is right on schedule.”
As I stare at him, I feel bad that I’ve kissed two of them in a week.“I kissed Wes.” The words leave me before I can stop them. He should know.
He nods and leans in closer. “He told us.”
My brows knit together, and I sit up. “You’re okay with it?”
His thumb brushes the back of my knuckles. “I am. I don’t know why. I just am. If you want to kiss him again, or the others, I’m good with that.” His eyes stay on mine. “But no one else. Just us.”
I wrinkle my nose. “I don’t like anyone else here but you guys.”
That earns me a smile. “We should head back. It’s almost dinnertime.”
He offers his hand. I take it. We walk back to camp, our fingers linked, and I can’t stop smiling.
As the Mess Hall comes into view, he looks over. “I got my driving permit last year. I’ll have my license by the end of August. Maybe I could come get you one weekend?”
I nod. “I would like that.”
I don’t know how this will work once we present. What if we all end up Alphas?Packs don’t tend to be romantic with each other without an Omega in the mix. And I don’t see any of us being an Omega.
The idea of them kissing another girl, even if we would all be scent-matched with her as Alphas, bothers me. I don’t want them to be focused on someone else.
The only other option is for us to be Betas and go out of the norm with all of them dating me.
What would our parents think?
Part of me doesn’t care. I don’t want to lose any of them. But knowing they want to try gives me hope that we’ll figure it out.
Chapter 7
Present Day…
The doorbell rings, jolting me back to reality.
“Food’s here!” Jace whoops, racing Logan to the door.
They come back with bags full of containers; the wings already perfume the air with spice. Wes pulls plates from the cabinets, and Ford grabs forks and napkins.
A wave of warmth slides up my spine. My thighs clench before I even realize I’m doing it. Every breath tastes like clove and begs my inner Omega to give in to the instincts I won’t let myself feel.I try to hold on to the edge of normal as sweat gathers at my nape.
I press my palm into the island, my fingertips drag against the wood grain as the desire in my center grows.
The guys dig through takeout bags, tossing wrappers, and arguing over which container holds what. They’re oblivious to what they’re doing to me, but that’s a good thing. It means my spray is at least trying to hold on.
