Story: Operation: Reluctant Angel
“No, just pushed him as he ran and let gravity do its thing,” Laura Lee said.
“How does it feel, officially having your creds?” Michael asked in a quiet voice.
“Good,” she said. “Especially because it signifies more than just completing the coursework.”
“I, for one, am glad Shepherd decided to keep us out of it from here out,” BT said.
“We still have a lot of work to do from HQ,” Garcia said. His gaze settled on Laura Lee. “I hear you’ve requested to be assigned to the Digital Team when we get back.”
“Yes. The job’s not done yet.”
Garcia nodded. “That’s good because I’d already made that recommendation. Sienna said I should invite you to stay in our guestroom. You have to be tired of that apartment on nine. But I told her you may have other accommodations lined up. So, we won’t be offended if you decline our invitation.”
Laura Lee felt her cheeks heat, and she knew the embarrassment that framed her face was telling. “Yes, I may, but thank you for the invitation. I’ll let you know.”
“Huh?” Michael asked. “What other accommodations?”
“Not your business,” Laura Lee said to him.
“What, like you’ve got a boyfriend or something?” Michael asked her.
Laura Lee’s embarrassment spiked to an all-time high. “I swear, Michael, you’re like a gossipy old woman.”
“A boyfriend? Who?” Mike Rogers asked.
“Mike, you too?” Laura Lee said.
“Inquiring minds want to know,” Mike replied with a laugh.
“I’m not ready to go public with it yet,” Laura Lee said.
“Oh, so there is a boyfriend,” Michael teased. “You might as well come clean. We’re going to be watching and will figure it out, anyway.”
“Consider us your big brothers. Whoever it is has to have our approval,” Mike added.
Laura Lee cupped her face with her hands. “Ugh! I hate you all.”
Laughter answered her.
“No, you don’t,” Jimmy Wilson said. “And we’re your team. If you can’t tell us, you can’t tell anyone.”
She gazed at him through her fingers. “And if you had a woman, you’d tell us?”
“In a heartbeat,” Wilson said.
“You all just leave Laura and Dupont alone,” BT said.
“Circles? Really?” Michael asked with a smile.
Laura Lee’s mouth dropped open, and her outraged stare landed on BT. She couldn’t believe he just outed her. “BT?”
“They weren’t going to let it go,” he said. “And they’d figure it out quickly anyway.”
“He’s a good guy. Yeah, I can see you two together,” Mike added.
“Yeah, agreed,” Jimmy chimed in. “Your big brothers approve.”
“Okay, fine, yes. Brad Dupont and I are kind of seeing each other,” Laura admitted. “Now drop it.”
