Story: Mystery in the Mountains
She turned to bound up the stairs to answer the phone but couldn’t seem to stop herself from whipping around for one last look at Asher.
When he grinned and wagged his eyebrows, she swooned.
“Hello?” she said, out of breath.
“Hey, Sunny, I was just making sure you were coming in tonight. I have you down for your first shift.”
“Oh my god, I’m so glad you called. I totally forgot. What time do you want me there?”
“If you want to head in at seven, I can show you around.”
“Okay, I’ll see you then.”
She hung up the phone and looked at the clock on the wall. It was already 5:45. She had enough time to shower and get ready . . . Sadly, the ideas for Asher would have to wait.
The screen door opened, and Asher entered the kitchen, looking better than anyone had the right to. Her face fell at the thought of not getting to follow through on their plans.
“What’s the matter?” he asked as he crossed over to the sink to wash his hands.
“I totally forgot I start bartending at Corner Tap tonight . . . So, my plans for you might have to wait,” she said before walking over and smacking his ass.
He turned his head over his shoulder, giving her a look that told her she was in for it.
“You do know I’m older.”
He reached for the towel and dried his hand as he turned and rested his hip against the counter, taking her in with his gaze that lit her on fire.
“Are you still pulling that? You are eight months older than me, Sunny . . . and we both know who’s in charge here.”
She crossed her arms, fixing to protest, but she loved it.
“The moon is full on Tuesday . . .” he said in almost a growl before stalking over to her. With his face mere inches from her, he said, “Maybe you need a reminder of who’s in charge.”
Holy fuck. How had she forgotten how easily he could undo her . . . and while he was a shifter, sex with Asher in the full moon was something else. His wolf was so close to the surface. And there were the changes in his anatomy that happened on that night. Just thinking about it had desire pooling deep inside of her.
Asher cocked an eyebrow and took a deep sniff. “You like the thought of that.”
She bit back a smile. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Sunny went to kiss him, only for him to stand out of her reach.
Pulling back, she scoffed at him. Only then did he lower his head and kiss her. And when he kissed her, he fucking kissed her.
She pulled away, dazed, breathless, and dreamy-eyed.
“Go get ready. I’ll drive you in and be there to pick you up.”
“Asher, that’s not necessary?—”
“Sunny, I’m going to be there, keeping you company, until you get off. Then we’re coming back here, and I’m going to take you up on that offer from outside.”
“Oh,” she said, waiting for her brain to catch up, but it was struggling to do anything but want to rip off his clothes.
He smiled at her.
Before long, Asher was driving her into town in the direction of the Corner Tap. “I’m going to go home and get cleaned up and make some plans with Abe, but I’ll be back in a couple hours.” He pulled into the parking lot.
Sunny made her way into the bar.
“What got you grinning like a cat who just found the cream?” asked Dusty.
