Dusty looked over at him and poured him another glass. “Anything you want to talk about?”

He just raised an eyebrow and shook his head.

“This doesn’t have anything to do with the reappearance of a certain blonde?”

Asher threw back the second shot of whiskey and slammed it back to the bar.

The bartender gave him a sympathetic smile and poured him another glass.

This wasn’t like him. He knew he was the talkative brother with an easy laugh and helpful hand. Abe was the surly motherfucker. But it would seem like there was a bit of a role reversal, all because of their mates showing up unexpectedly.

He dropped his head in his hand and took a deep breath. When he saw her fall down those stairs, his heart had nearly jumped out of his chest. Taking care of the clumsy witch was a full-time job, and it was one he had once loved doing.

He could love it again. Maybe it was time. Asher could almost feel his wolf give a contented sigh at the thought.

He still wasn’t sure what to do.

Eleven

SUNNY

Later that night, Sunny hobbled upstairs to her bedroom. There had to be crutches in this house somewhere. She’d fallen and twisted her ankle enough times. She had managed to go through all the boxes, so maybe she could track him down to get him to stack them back up for her.

As she blotted her face with a towel before drying her hands, her heart nearly shot out of her chest at the loud bang on the door.

She paused, waiting to see if there was something else. The house had been making some strange noises since she’d been back, so this could just be another, but there was another loud bang at the door, accompanied by a loud male voice calling her name.

Asher.

Her heart leaped at the thought that he might be ready to make up.

She slowly started making her way down the stairs using her new sturdy banister.

“Sunny! I want to talk to you!” He banged on the door again.

“I’m coming. Give me a minute!”

When she made it to the front door, she stopped, taking a moment to try to catch her breath and steel herself.

As she pulled it open, the smell of whiskey hit her as a naked Asher barreling into her house.

“Asher,” she exclaimed, trying not to let her gaze take in his long, lean muscles. “What are you doing here?”

“We need to talk,” he said, turning to her, his hands on his hips.

It was not helping Sunny navigate this situation.

“Do we have to do it while you’re naked?” she asked, hiding her eyes.

“I don’t remember you having a problem with my nudity before,” he said with a slight slur.

When she looked up at him, she found a familiar smirk on his face, one she hadn’t seen since she’d been back.

That was a good sign, right? So, she guessed she was just going to have to deal with a naked Asher. She could have a conversation with him like this. Sure, she could, at least she hoped.

“What do you want to talk about?” she asked, trying to be unaffected by her building desire.
