Story: Mine to Protect
“If you promise not to bite, I’ll wait until day two to fuck that sweet ass of yours.”
Shoulders shaking, tears streaming, breaths heaving, my spirit broke at his disturbing words.
“Now open—”
I jumped and screamed at the gunshot. Ears ringing, I watched as my attacker’s eyes went wide. The impact of his heavy body hitting the dirt pushed a small cloud of dust around the room.
Cas. He made it. He saved me.
Frantically I looked over each shoulder, trying to get a view of the door, of him.
“Cas,” I sobbed in relief. “Cas, you came.”
No response. No hug or warm embrace.
Nothing.
A chill sent goose bumps down both arms and neck. “Cas?” I said tentatively. Something was very wrong.
“Sorry, Birdie. No Cas.”
What the hell is going on?I whipped my head left and right, desperate to get a view of the door and the person now in the room. “Wh-what are you doing here? Where’s Cas?”
I ducked and shifted away from the soft stroking down the back of my head.
“What do you want?”
“You, of course.”
Stepping around the bleeding man, my new captor moved into the light. Her smiling blue eyes met mine, an evil gleam shining bright within them, twinkling in the artificial light.
This couldn’t be happening.
Finally finding my words, I choked out the only thing I could think to say.
“Sarah?”

“How quick canwe get results on the coffee and empty bottle?” I asked as I followed the detective out of the cabin. “We need to find her. Now.”
The detective grimaced and paused, looking everywhere other than me. “Not soon enough to be useful.”
I gripped his shoulder and spun him around to face me. “We find her. Now.”
He shrugged out of my hold. “Unless you implanted some tracking device in her, we have nothing to go on at this point. I’ll check the coffee shop where—”
“Fuck me!” I smacked a sweaty palm against my forehead. Struggling to stay calm, I dropped the phone to the ground twice before I could dial Peters’s number. “Peters. Mathews. Get me Alta’s parents’ information. Now. All their numbers.”
I hung up without waiting for a reply. No time for words. No time for anything. The clock was ticking on finding my Lady in one piece.
The phone vibrated in my hand, the screen showing an unknown number.
“Mathews,” I practically yelled into the mouthpiece.
“Sir. We got the results back on the blood sample from the dog's mouth. She was in the system, so we have—”
