“If you are serious about selling I have a suggestion for you.”
“I’m listening.”
“Your car is worth more than mine. I’ll buy your car for five thousand dollars and I’ll give you my car as well so you won’t be out of a vehicle.”
“Are you serious? You’ll do that?”
“Yes. I’ve needed to get a bigger vehicle for a while but don’t want a new car payment.” He held out his hands. “I’m not trying to pressure you. It has to be your decision.”
She nodded. “Can I let you know tomorrow?”
“Of course. You have my number from the order right?” He smiled and held out his hands.
“Yes, I do. I’ll let you know for sure tomorrow.”
“Again, I can’t thank you enough for what you did for us. I haven’t seen Katie smile like that in a while.”
“It was my pleasure.” She got into her Jeep and drove home.
Chapter 44
The next morning she headed into town after leaving the Clemson’s house. She had business at the bank and she wanted it taken care of as soon as possible.
Rebecca stood from her desk as she got up. “Carolina, I’m glad you’re here.”
Carolina smiled. “Yes, I have some news. I have the money. She pulled out a check and showed it to her.
“I would ask if you robbed a bank but then I would know.” Rebecca frowned. “How’d you get it?”
“I sold my vehicle.”
“Oh, I wish you hadn’t done that.” Rebecca sank into her chair.
“It was a cash offer. The Clemsons’ needed a car and I sold them mine.”
“But what will you drive? You still need to be able to get to work.” Rebecca looked concerned.
“I got Tony’s car as well as cash for my Jeep.”
“That little economy car?” Rebecca gave her a horrified look.
She laughed. “Yes. It gets me from one place to another and that’s all that matters. And he says it’s amazing on gas.”
Rebecca chewed her lip. “There’s something I wanted to talk with you about.”
“Tell me Janice didn’t write more checks on my name.” She narrowed her eyes.
“Oh no. Nothing like that. But I would like you to step into the conference room.”
“Okay.” She followed her into the room with a large table. Standing at the end of the table was a woman with her back to her.
“If everyone will sit.” Rebecca sat at the head of the table and motioned for Carolina to sit beside her.
The woman turned around and Carolina gasped.
“Janice. What are you doing here?” Carolina stared.
“She’s here because I called in a favor to a state trooper friend of mine. What she did was illegal. He found her and had her escorted back here.”
