Story: Kage
Both were in neon colors.
What the hell was he thinking?
A wash of heat crisscrossed my chest, rising to my face and I almost burst into giggles. If he’d bought underwear with Garfield on it or even the days of the week, that would have been less awkward.
When I turned around again, uncertain what to say, he was glowering at me. I couldn’t tell if the look was pure hatred or something else altogether.
I’d grown up immersed in a culture that nurtured men into becoming spoiled and arrogant. Extreme wealth had a way of stripping away any concept of decency and even humanity. I’d dated a few men who’d taken man-child tantrums to a new level, always whining about their lot in life. All while counting the numbers in their trust funds.
Men now wore entitlement like a badge of honor.
My God, they were all so fake, all carbon copies of each other. I could line one against another in a room and everything about them from their attire to the sports cars they’d owned since they’d gotten their driver’s license would be exactly the same.
Bor-ring.
I included my father in the category. I adored him, but his over-the-top behavior didn’t suit my craving for independence.
I’d hated all of it. The lavish parties. The events my father had required me to attend. That’s why I’d left the life in search of something that could make me happy for me. No one else. At least that was one reason.
Sadly, money, power, and influence had followed me like a thick, coiled rope around my neck.
What I didn’t have experience with were rugged men who couldn’t care less about politics, money, clout, or anything else wrapped around a basketful of greed.
Maybe that’s why I was so attracted to this hulk of a man. He was the epitome of a bad boy. Guns a-blazing. Maneuvering a vehiclelike some racecar driver. Right down to the colorful tattoos on his arms.
Even his name emblazoned images of fiery passion.
He didn’t have the decency to look away. I did, heading straight into the bathroom and closing the door. This time, Tank hadn’t tried to follow me to keep me safe from the grouchy man.
Furry traitor.
At least until we were back on American soil, I could enjoy the perks of being in his company. That was all I’d allow myself. The last thing I needed was to fall into some crazy trap with a man like Kage Rollins.
Savior or not, he was absolutely the most dangerous man I would ever come in contact with.
CHAPTER 10
Kage
“This is a fucking disaster,” I growled into the phone.
In more than one way.
What the fuck was wrong with me? The moment I’d seen Juliette without any clothes on, I’d almost reacted in a way that would have gotten me court-martialed if still in the service. Even now, if I considered laying a finger on her, I’d have both Gray and her father breathing down my neck.
It didn’t matter she was of age, certainly capable of making her own decisions.
They’d consider me bad for her.
The ugly truth was right there.
I wasn’t good for anybody, especially the prized possession of a powerful man. I’d done my homework on Randolph Carver. I’d seen the photographs in the various financial magazines and inside lavish parties. Always with a different woman on his arm.I’d also seen pictures of his daughter by his side at several charity events, but she looked entirely different standing in only a towel and wet hair.
Why the fuck was my cock twitching?
“We’ll figure it out, Kage,” Gray sighed.
“It would seem the goddamn police could be on the take. I don’t appreciate being ambushed.”
