Story: Grumpy Boss of the Year
"Anything else that I do, I will tell you about," he says solemnly.
"So you won't lie to me anymore?"
"I will not actively lie to you anymore."
"What does that mean?"
He stares at me for a couple of seconds and shakes his head. "I will not keep anything from you that is relevant to me and my life."
His words sound cagey, but I can't quite put my finger on it.
"So we're gonna be married for three years. I guess that means you're gonna be getting me a rock, huh?"
"Are you fishing for an engagement ring, Elisabetta?"
"I mean, I'm just saying." I pause for a few moments. "And what am I gonna tell my friends? Fuck. What am I gonna tell Skye?"
"I assume you're gonna tell her the truth."
"And you don’t care that everyone knows that I'm your paid-for bride?"
"I want you to live your truth, so whatever that is," he says, touching the side of my face. "I'm doing this for you."
"Why, though?" I say.
"Why? Maybe because I…" He shrugs. "I don't know."
"If you say you feel bad for me, I will kick you in the nuts."
"I'm not doing it because I feel bad for you, Elisabetta." He gives me a kiss on the lips again. "I'm doing it because there are just some things you know are the right thing to do, and this is one of them."
Chapter Twenty-Six
Liam
“Wow! Where are we?” Elisabetta looks around the small airport and shakes her head. There is a look of wonder in her eyes. She looks so beautiful with her hair down and a smile on her face. There are moments when I look at her and my heart can’t stop racing. “Liam, where are we?”
“ I will tell you in good time, my dear,” I say, feeling light and happy. There’s something so refreshing about being with her. Something that makes me feel like a million dollars. Something that even money can’t buy. And now, we finally enjoy each other. We spent the morning making love. In fact, we almost missed our flight because we made love in the shower before we left.Thankfully, it was a chartered flight so they’d waited on us.
“Are you not going to tell me, Liam?”
“I mean, you’re going to find out soon enough,” I say as we grab our suitcases and head to the front.
“So, what? Are we going to grab a taxi?” She looks surprised as we exit the airport and there’s just one car at the front.
“Where is everyone, by the way?” She looks at me in surprise. “Like we’re not in St Barths, are we?”
“No,” I smile at her. “We’re on another island.”
“And the name of the island is?”
“See if you can guess.”
“Umm…how am I supposed to guess? I don’t know…Jamaica?”
“There are quite a few more people in Jamaica than here.”
“Okay, Barbados, Grenada, Martinique, St Lucia…”
"So you won't lie to me anymore?"
"I will not actively lie to you anymore."
"What does that mean?"
