Story: Designed for Disaster
Let’s all just acknowledge that Trent took this photo in the ‘just got engaged’ sex bed,Aiden wrote.Look at those sheets!
My cheeks heated. “Oh my god! He’s right! How could you post the sheets?”
Trent laughed, replying to Aiden with a winky face. Aiden sent a lewd GIF back—there was a lot of gyrating.
“Don’t encourage him!” I cried.
Trent kissed my cheek. “Get used to it. I’m not letting you leave this bed any time soon.”
Does Stacy know yet?Dominic asked. Can I show her this?
“Go for it,” I told Trent, who replied for me. Stacy must have gone to Dominic’s after work. A moment later, Stacy was blowing up my phone with congratulatory messages and emojis. So many damn emojis. “What the hell is the rocket ship supposed to mean?”
“Our love is out of this world?” Trent suggested.
I smirked.
“In case it’s not obvious,” he said as he pulled me closer. “They’re all really happy for us.”
“Are you gonna tell Dee now?” I asked.
He considered that for a second. I didn’t know why he’d wait. “How about you call and give her the good news?” he suggested.
“Are you sure? You don’t want that news to come from you?”
“I think she’ll be over the moon to hear from you,” he said. “And while you do that, I’ll text Jimmy and see how he feels about being my best man.”
I smiled softly at him. “Jimmy’s gonna love that.”
Trent smirked. “He’s probably gonna rake me over the coals in his speech.”
“No worse than any of the other guys,” I said.
Trent barked a laugh, already texting. “That’s true.”
As I picked up my phone to dial Dee, I couldn’t help thinking about what she’d last said to me:Don’t give up on life either, honey…wonderful things can happen.
I wondered if she’d known how right she was when she said that. My heart raced as the phone rang. I’d never been so excited to tell anyone anything. Well, certainly not since before I’d lost my parents.
The phone clicked. “Hello?”
“Hi, Dee,” I said.
“Natasha. This is a surprise! It’s so good to hear from you, honey.”
“Are you sitting down?” I asked.
“Am I?—”
“Because I’ve got an even bigger surprise for you.”
“Something tells me it’s not about the furniture,” Dee said.
“No, it’s a little better than furniture.” Ha! Who could believe that? “Trent and I are engaged!”
Dee made her congratulations known, very loudly, on the other end of the phone. I had to hold the phone away from my ear until she stopped shrieking.
“I think she approves,” Trent whispered.
