Story: Curse of the Gods
She was one of the strongest women I’d ever met. She was a queen, ruler of the Elvan Nations on Morduaine. She was loved by many, but especially, El.
They’d never married, but now, I wondered.
Baby,I said to Jeremy’s mind.
He swiveled from Moses’s plate of bananas.
Do you think we’ll find El?
A smile spread across his lips.I already have.I made a face at that, and he thought,He’s my dad.
I furrowed my brows.Jéan?
He nodded. But come to think of it—he glanced around the table—does anyone else here look familiar to you?
I glanced at the ones I knew with certainty.
Celena had been Luna. Wyatt had been Rion. Chris had been Medica. Hya had obviously been Hya. Kai had been Venark. Hannah had been Hana.
Yeah, but anyone else?
When I flicked my eyes down the rowdy table, my stomach spun. For whatever reason, it all clicked at once.
Cere.
I was looking at Cere as she passed Milly a piece of toast.
But she wasn’t Cere anymore. She went by Leah now.
Beside her sat Brody. I’d known him as Araton.
And then… at the end of the table… sat Adam. Adam and Jenna, my adopted sister in this life. I didn’t recognize her from the life we lived before, but I remembered Adam.
He’d gone by Lapsus then.
His wife had been Elira.
And Jenna was not Elira.
Jeremy must’ve seen me come to that conclusion, because in our telepathic conversation, he changed the topic.Speaking of mums. You know Brynn made it, don’t you?
My eyes filled with tears, heart swelling three times its size. No, I hadn’t known. There hadn’t been a way for metoknow. But now I did, and…
We have to find her.
And Dem.He nodded to Leah.Think we should tell her first?
Maybe? But Stella wasn’t at this table, and I didn’t know when she would be. Would I want to know about my first life if I didn’t have my husband to share this one with?
Let’s find Dem first, I thought. Then we’ll tell Cere. But let’s hunt down my mum, and Vinion, and Ayla.
Jeremy only smiled, giving a gentle nod.

We didn’t go to the Land of Light. Not today. But we checked our schedule and rearranged it so we could make a trip the weekend after next.
